Hey guys/gals!
I'm looking for a new turbo or full turbo setup to purchase, what I currently am running:
S4 turbo2
Fresh engine rebuild from Banzai Racing w/ street port with less than 5000 miles
Pre-mix 1 gallon 93octane/1 ounce of 2-stroke oil
3 inch intake with filter
3 inch Racing beat exhaust (full)
All emissions removed
Ported/modded TB
FMIC
550/720cc injectors
Walboro 255 fuel pump
Rtek 1.7
10psi set w/ manual boost controller
I was previously using a hybrid 60 trim turbo from RotaryShack, unfortunately it bit the dust. I'm currently using the factory exhaust manifold, and I'd like to keep it if I could just for simplicity! Now, onto my question what type of turbo configuration can I safely go with rather than going back to another hybrid setup? For example, .57trim turbo with an external wastegate and different manifold.
I'm concerned with the amount of airflow the different turbo's produce will effect the Rtek, rather than staying with the exact same 60trim hybrid. Would I be able to run a slightly smaller turbo with the same psi or a larger turbo at lower psi and be safe? Or would that highly effect the tune causing possible engine damage.
Any input or suggestions is appreciated!
Thanks everyone

if you just want just a turbo upgrade option, with your current setup its pointless to go with anything but a hybrid.
To go to a full turbo setup, you will need bigger injectors, and a standalone.
Anything under 400rwhp is good fora hybrid to make. If you want to make more, its better to go with a full turbo setup. But thats just my view on it. Other people surely has different upgrade paths

Sorry must have forgotten to mention I guess the biggest point, I'd like to keep it close to the power I have now, not looking for much of an upgrade, more rather a replacement for my old turbo. The power it had with the previous setup was more than enough for me, so I'd like to keep it close as possible to what I previously had.

A full T4 upgrade with a tubular manifold will spool faster, and make more power than the same size hybrid turbo for everyone's information.. You will want to add larger secondaries injectors and re-tune regardless. 550/720cc injectors won't support much power, maybe 280rwhp~ish..

Okay, so basically its too hard to determine what the effects would be switching from turbo to turbo. Now, if I were to keep the same factory exhaust manifold and perhaps use an S5 factory turbo, would I be safe with that?
The main reason I'm trying to keep things as close to the same is because I'm replacing my blown turbo so I can sell the car. And I'd like to provide a vehicle to someone that isn't gonna blow up due to a poor choice on turbo's and be as reliable as it was when I was using the hybrid turbo. What power it makes doesn't concern me too much only for the fact that I don't intend on using the car after the necessary repairs have been made, but I don't want it to be a potent problem for someone down the road.

Those were my original intentions, until I inspected the damage. The compressor side backing plate has cracks all through it. And has decent scuffing where the wheel had spun.
So, unfortunately those parts plus the rebuild kit and labor would cost more compared to possibly finding a comparable used or new turbo

Turbos are never really "cheap".
Have you ever looked into BNR turbos? For the price and power that you're looking for, you could get a stage 2 for a decent price. >BNR Supercars - You'd still need to get it tuned. Maybe Bryan at BNR could even rebuild your current turbo.

Just throw a stock turbo on it and let the next owner decide on any upgrades. If you can at least find a rebuildable core, you can get it rebuilt with a warranty for under $400.

Thank you for all of the information and input you guys!
Much appreciated, I think I'm going to take the S5 turbo route. When I go to purchase it, should I try and gather any other necessary parts to install it? Downpipe & exhaust manifold flanges identical from S4 & S5? Fittings from the coolant and oil lines the same? Things like that?
