Question Turbo II with these mods?

My brother in law and I just got back from Pheniox AZ picking up an 87 Turbo II with a bunch of mods- aside from needing help hooking up the electronics and all- what is he looking at performance wise-

87 Turbo II
HKS downpipe
Testpipe
Catback
Fcon
FCD
Rebic II
HKS EVC
Fuel pump
? injectors

that is all I have identified- but it doesn't make sense to me to install additional injectors for that small a mod list? Should I be looking for things that point to larger better mods? I am TOTALLY new to the wankel world- I can use as many helpful hints as I can.

I know my way around turbos- I own a 300hp 91 3000GT VR4 and a severly modded 92 Stealth TT (4xxWHP), as well as a 175hp TurboII LeBaron GTC- but the 7 is a new game for me.

Thanks in advance

I doubt they are additional injectors, he probably just upgraded the stock secondaries, this is very common amongst the 2nd Gen people. Probably 720cc.

the mod list looks pretty good, rotarys die a quick death at the first sign of detonation so fueling and the control of, is at the top of the list at all times.

I didnt notice any aftermarket gauges, I would invest in the three primary, EGT, Boost, Air/fuel ratio.

Next purchase might be a boost contoler of some kind and up the stock boost to about 10psi, if your brave and think you have the fueling you may even want to go a bit higher but not much over 12.

well here's the deal- the rebic controller goes to an injector all by it's lonesome... yeah, 5 injectors- that is why I was wondering what else is likely to be done to need that much fuel?!?

and the car has an EVC which is a boost controller- we just picked it up with a carbed up rear apex seal... so we haven't had it running yet to see if any of this stuff is still hooked up right or not...

so, is this like 13 second stuff, or what should he expect? if this was tuned right

Umm, I think he has the additional injectors correct; the Rebic II is an additional injector driver, right?
Shadowfax- yes, the additional inj. are a good idea on that mildly modded 87 TII. The stock computer has a fuel cut at a low boost level- the elimination of the stock restrictive precat and cat w/ downpipe/ midpipe combined w/ an overly small turbo wastegate passage are enough to easily surpass fuel cut boost levels. The FCD eliminates this by "clamping" the boost sensor voltage below FC levels; however there is nothing to compensate for the extra fuel needed by the higher boost levels- so the rebic should be set up to provide this fuel. You can gain up to 60HP from exhaust alone on the 87-88 TII (partly due to the higher "natural boost levels") so I wouldn't say it is a mild modification. Sounds like a well thought out mod list!

It does sound like a decent mod list however there are a few wierd things.

First it has an Fcon which to my knowledge has the ability to act as a fuel cut defencer so the other FCD is useless. Also the Fcon can handle fuel delievery similar to the S-AFC so bigger injectors in the secondary position would be sufficient, the added 5th injector is wierd, where is it plumbed too? The rest of the setup sounds half decent, just some over lapping in the devices area.

some notes from me...
The HKS PFC F-CON comes packaged with it's own FCD, so if this is not installed, you'll need an FCD.&nbsp The installation of an F-CON does not guarantee it has an (HKS) FCD on it.

Dialed up to 14psi (stock turbo is only good up to 14), it should do 13's...easily.

wow- thanks guys!

I will have to look at where the 5th injector is plugged and whether the other injectors are stock or larger.

Now I just need installtion and manuals for all that stuff since most of it seems unhooked!

Guess I'll have to take a crash course!

Oh, another quicky since you guys are the experts- is there any difference between an 86 N/A 13B and the 87 TII 13B??? Cause we have an 86 with a 13B that runs great...

The naturally aspirated and turbo rotaries share some parts, but all the big ones are different. Side housings= 6 port NA vs 4 port turbo; rotor housings= possibly different surface treatment of sealing surface (electroplated NA, sleeved turbo), no exhaust baffles in turbo; rotors= lower compression in turbo. The manifolds are all different as well. Not many people would put a NA in a turbo car; big drop in performance and turbo 13bt is available used from Japan, NA 13b isn't.

Ouch, thanks guys. Glad to know that now.

Guess we just need to work on that rear rotor apex seal then.

Anyone have a clue on where I can get manuals for installing the Fcon and the Rebic II?

I would contact the manufacturers, they probably have them for download somewhere.

Talking

Gandalf is fine- he is mucking around down in Moria and said he'd be out soon... however of course- I haven't heard from him in a long time... probably off frolicking with those elvish tarts... he always had a taste for a nice 1,000 year old Noldor now and again. He likes it when they call him Olorin... crazy old coot...

Not just a Tolkien buff- I'm plain nuts- each book... err about 6 copies of all 5 of them (7 of the Silmarillion)... I've read em each so many times that I have been watching the movie for years

back to the car- we have found a guy that may help... this could be good. I'll ask more questions later!

Thanks
