1) Fuel delivery is inconsistent.  Check the usual?  Fuel pump, both fuel filters, fuel injectors clean?
2) The loud backfire could be signs of a bad TPS.  Check resistance at WOT to see it doesn't go over 6k-ohm to 6.5k-ohm.

Sup Ted. TPS is good. Injectors could probably use cleaning but going to replace the secondaries with larger injectors anyways but will get the primaries cleaned. I have a spare set of injectors too, maybe I'll see if any of those work better. Going to replace the pump with a walbro unit and replace the filters. Mazda OEM only or discount for the filters?

Going to be putting a Haltech EK6 in it so the $10 isn't going to break the bank. Granted it's not a super high budget, but 3k has been allocated to this project unless we need it elsewhere.
It was more of the convenence factor than price. :P

Alright thanks. Have any idea around how long it usually takes? [/B]
Ted: Checked the TPS again and put a ground wire on the UIM. TPS is ~.995->1.050k ohm closed and warm, 6.16-6.18 at wot. going to try to find a spare asap.
The car runs the same with or without the pressure switch plugged in
And still idles on one rotor. Going to try to find spare sensors and stuff this weekend at the junkyard.

I sure as hell am.

This weekend is going to be busy. First hitting the junkyard for a TPS and some pressure switches. A few gauges from the junkyard and some other sensors too. Whatever worthwhile spare parts I can find. Then going to tear it apart and replace the LIM and UIM gaskets, change the fuel injector clips, test all the sensors, replace the o2 sensor (it's throwing a code), etc.. should be fun :P

Yeah, that WOT resistance spec is borderline.  At those readings, it might or might not contribut to high RPM hesitations.  In comparison, a brand new TPS specs out under 5k-ohm.  As the TPS ages and wears, the resistance starts to climb.  Anything under 6k-ohm should still work good, but it gets suspect over 6k-ohms.
Good luck!
