Turbo diff and axle question.

Hey guys,

I know I've read a post on here somewhere and I can't find it again. I've been searching all morning.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that the GTUs' and the turbo cars had the same differential, half shafts, axles, etc... Is that right?

My dilemma I'm in right now is that I have a turbo diff with the half shafts and I need to get it in my Na car. I have access to a GTUs for parts but it's not close to me so I wanted to know if the GTUs has the same axles that I can take out of it and use with the diff that I have. Also need to see if the aluminum bearing carrier on the Na rear end are the same as the turbo and the GTUs cars. I'm assuming I will need the aluminum bearing carrier and the axles since the axles spline in the bearing carrier.

Is that right?

no man the GTUs has an NA diff but it's a viscous LSD w/ a 4.30 ratio. The Turbo diffs are bigger (i don't know the number but I think 7.5" vs 6.x" or something. Belive that's ring diameter)

So nothing's going to interchange between that & the turbo rear.

BUT!!! Those GTUs rears are worth a lotttt of money- you may be wise to go ahead & purchase it (assuming "access" means it's in a junkyard) & sell/trade it for your turbo rear.

OH & if you're up for it I'd like to ask you to pick me up the radio out of the GTUs possibly, give me a PM if you don't mind. Good luck!

There is a myth that the GTUs is "the Turbo II without the turbo". This is complete bullshit. The GTUs has the non-turbo components that fit the rest of the non-turbo cars.

The Turbo II differential and halfshafts will fit on your car, but your driveshaft will be too short unless you use the special Mazdatrix driveshaft that is designed to mate to non-turbo transmission to the Turbo II differential.

The Turbo II and non-turbo halfshafts are designed to attach to their corresponding differentials. They have different bolt patterns and lengths, so you can't mix and match them.

Thanks for replying guys. Very helpful.

So the GTUs does not have a turbo diff in it and I will need to source turbo axles for the diff I have. What about the hubs? The aluminum bearing carriers at the wheels? Are those different too or will na ones work for the turbo axles?

Landon, the car doesn't have the radio in it. I have the factory radio from my car if you are just wanting a factory radio.
