I removed the turbo charger on my S5 because it was smoking badly.I sent the baking plate to G-Pop Shop to let them install the 1pc carbon seal. They called and said that the backing plate was cracked about half way through and it was unusable.

So, is the backing plate swappable with any other turbos, like the Garrett T3?

Will the Garrett T04B fit? I don't have the back plate to get the measurements.

 

i dont know of an aftermarket piece that will fit. you may as well go hybrid turbo with it now

 

Is a hybrid a turbo that you build or one that you just buy? Any suggestions?

 

I have probably 3 HT18 backplates that are just sitting in my garage. A hybrid turbo can be bought or built. There are plenty of threads about how to build hybrids. Most of them will be T04B v-trim. The down side is that you have to search Ebay forever to find a t04b core to take the compressor end off. If you need the backplate, pm me. I can send one to you (or just straight to g-pop shop) for the cost of shipping.
