well, it explains your need to want to break the 400HP mark. I am under the impression that DSMs are fairly easy to modify to get 400-500hp (their trannies and some electrical work seems to be their downfall though) and you want the 7 to be the same but it's an entirely different beast. Mob around in a 300HP DD TII and you'll be happy unless your main goal is to race anyone and everyone that is next to you (Modded STIs, camaros, vettes etc., etc.) and as we mentioned earlier you'll need lots of $$, time and research to get there.

I cannot imagine how much more insane I'd be if I suffered from road rage.
to get back on track: 300-350HP is all you need. Lighten your car a tad more and Modify your suspension set-up and get some nice wide tires/rims and you can have a 2600lbs. car that rides on rails.
I think you should be able to make 300HP on piggybacks also.

Thats good to, but I also like to beat the asshats on the road with my "inferior" rotary powered car. Like some guy I came across the other day in his new fancy ugly Holden Monaro... *cough* I mean GTO... he had to be in his 50's, looked over at me and took off and beat me by a few cars. I gotta be able to pull on people like that so I can look back over and grin at them.
<------- Roadrage x10, I dont tolerate people too well on the road. People who think its necissary to go in and out of lanes just to get 2 cars ahead, in the meantime nearly running me off the road. Or people who are in such a hurry they have to ride my *** when Im in the fastlane doing 85 in a 70, then flash their lights and act stupid.
PS. Im gonna try for 325whp on my Rtek 1.8, which I think should be no problem. BNR Stage 3 turbo and RB Turboback.

Megasquirt is for the hardcore do it yourself crowd, which I am not part of (for the most part, I have always done my own work, but wouldnt do an ECU).
I think Microtech/Haltech might be the best bet for a good ECU. Can get one for around $900-$1100 with partial harness. That along with a nice size aftermarket turbo, exhaust and some 720cc or 750cc Primaries and 1300cc or 1600cc Secondaries. Along with the other goodies like Ignition parts, and others youll need should get you to 400whp. As long as your engine is freshly rebuilt or low milage. Probably wouldnt hurt to have a ported engine. just make it that much easier to reach your goal. Also what engine you running? S4 or S5?
And dont take what some people say to heart, we have alot of uptight people here who are constantly on their period it seems. Just gotta live with them
BTW, watch out for Ted, he has a stick up his *** that no one can remove

i feel you to an extent but that is like the arms war we waged in the 50's and 60's. He has 300HP so I'll have 325. Oh realys??? he has 325 now?? I'll add the same parts he added and now I'm at 400hp. what will that lead to?
DOS has a lot of work to do. Hope it all works out. peace out bastards.

Ive seen alot of people recieve their engines with missing parts, broken parts, broken sensors, dented or completely split open oil pans, low compression, rusted up or seized engines, since they come from Japan, they no doubt spend a good bit of time on the docks waiting to be placed on a ship, then several more days or weeks on a ship. Alot of time for salty damp air to do its work on parts. Then again like I said, I have also seen people end up with a perfectly fine engine after a bit of cleaning and parts replacing. Also alot of problems with their customer service. I know I waited well over a month and sent 4 or 5 emails before I even got a reply, and even then it wasnt an answer to my question. I hope you dont get screwed, maybe it will work out with no problems.

I used to get engines from nippon-motors and they were cool but I haven't seen any more 13b's on their site, any other good place to get motors from? or replacement parts I.E. rotos n housings?

Im not sure about a place for used JDM motors. You can buy pre rebuilt engines from places though. Atkins for one sales rebuilt engines. S4 Turbo engine for $3250, thats fully rebuilt with new rotor housing and oil pump. Plus a $550 core charge if you dont have a core to replace it with. So after shipping, probably $4000-$4200. Expensive, but you will have a rebuilt engine with pretty much no worries. Can also ask to have it ported while its still there for another $300ish. Forget the exact amount. IMO the cost is worth it, since a used jdm motor will have to be rebuilt anyway before you do the kinds of mods you want done. After a rebuild (if you do it yourself) your still looking at close to $3000. So why not buy one pre built and ported, ready to go.

I don't mean to be a killjoy, but there's no way you're going to make 300-400 HP (yes, that large of a range) for $400. No way, no how. Even if you are very good at salvaging parts we're still talking a turbo upgrade, intercooler, fuel injectors, pump, some way to control fuel, downpipe, catback and miscellaneous.
You're also not going to reverse engineer a standalone. The hardware is easy (just look at the Megasquirt). It's the firmware that will be a problem. The base Megasquirt kit with the V3 board costs a little more then $200. There's more then half your budget right there and that doesn't even include the wiring harness. I do know a thing about electronics when I say this.

thanks much, the only thing is I never said that I only had $400 for this whole project, who in the right mind would even think that way, all I said was that I didn't have 1200 to throw into an EMS, so if there were another alt. to this for around the 300-500 range but I think I got it figured out and trust me I've done plenty of work with electronics and yes I can replicate it if I could get the parts, anyone could if they sat down and did the research n the learning. which is what Im doing with this project. but I really appreciate all you guy's help, knowledge is power and the more you guys tell me the more I know so THANKS!!!
