aight, back to the original post from me, as for mods turbo stock, intercooler stock, i have full 3" exhaust with a pre muff(could be a cat , dont look like one.. no emissions where im at) 3" downpipe, running just rich as **** right now tryin to figure out the prob pretty sure its my injectors(there stock) , FCd, Blitz blow off valve, non ported wastegate, walbro pump, SAFCII yet to be tuned with(waitin on money to hit the dyno) just seems fucked, im having boost problems right now as well , wont hit full boost till around 4500-5000rpm also thinking vac leak somewhere , any one experienced any problems like this in similar situations???
seem to be running so rich its boggin my engine and slowing it down? to the point were im matting it and am smelling gas seems like rpms are rising slow... HELP!

ok i just layed down on my bed thought about this **** and i think i might have it figured out, out so lean = hot (red glowing turbo), and me smelling gas which i probably shouldnt right? maybe i got a fuel line leak somewhere in the engine bay causing lean running and the smell of gas, fuel pump and inline filter were changed 10-15km ago.. any ideas where it could be leaking? ima take a visual but i think its gona be hard to tell because the smell only occurs under driving situations at full throttle???? any one had this before?

no, im pretty sure that your running realy realy rich. you will smell gas like crazy and since its so rich your going to have gas igniting in your exhaust that didnt ignite in your engine making your turbo glow like crazy. my exhaust manifold was glowing on my car when it was rich and i have an N/A

^I agree. Thats what I was first thinking with the off timing, car was running rich, fuel not burned goes into manifold, bad timing+heat on manifold causes it to burn inside.
If he was running lean, the heat you see on his manifold would also be in the engine, and you'd defenitly be in trouble (detonation).
*edit*
I wonder what corky bell would have to say about this?

I remember when I had the silencer on my car, it would idle for like 2 mins and the turbo would be glowing like crazy.... It took a sawzal, a flat head and a hammer to take out that stupid silencer....

I doubt its your intectors. Too rich can cause a turbo to glow just like too lean can. Its much more common for lean to = heat, but if it is way too rich, that can cause excess heat too. Also listen to the people on here and check your timing.

so you think that bad timing will cause it to run so rich, to point where i can smell gas when im flooring it driving? it just doesnt seem right . the flooding is pretty bad.

though this may be unrelated... I hope...
My 91 N/A vert gets real, real hot (I haven't checked if it glows yet.) Well, after I let it idle for about 4-5 mimuts, cat seems to start to raddle and hit against something near by. I haven't been able to visually locate exactly where, but it seems to go away when I put it into any gear. It seems to match the rpm, but can't exactly find what the problem is. Could this be a cat problem?
Thanks!
(edit) Martin, I love your lights. Could you tell me if it's a kit? Thanks.

yeah when my turbo did this for the first time I almost had a heart attack. I thought i blew it up but from what I have been told is this is just because the turbo is so old.

"Old" turbos should not glow because they are old.
Running excessivly rich will cause the turbo to glow.
It is normal for the turbo to glow slightly after running the car hard for a little while.
Failing or clogged cats will cause exhaust gasses to back up, and can cause the turbo/manifold to glow.

well i think i have come to the conclusion that my TPS is messed, and my timing is probably off, and its not the turbo glowing red, its my wastegate but still it glows red hot after only like a 10min drive of easy driving, so i gotta get a new TPS and go from there i guess.

Hrm.... I also seem to have the same problem... glowing turbo after light/medium driving. And its no light glow either - full on light up the entire section of my engine bay and maybe light up the ground a bit too.
So timing - how do you go about checking it and correcting it if its not right?
Thanks,
Jonathan
