troublesome fuel problems?

i bought an 86 rx-7 na a month ago, owner said it had a blown apex seal and compression problems, i doubt that since once we got it running it ran fine for a couple weeks. only mods to it are kn air filter straight one piece exhaust pipe, doesnt have a catalyic converter or airpump, 5spd short shifter, got about 190 on the chassy and 50k on the rebuilt. i had to buy a new starter, decided to buy new ngk spark plugs. and my car still will die after idling by itself for a minute, not start unless its the first start of the day or it gets pushed. and smells like gas. help me, i dont want a honda. theres a screw on top of the throttle body im not quite sure which direction i should turn it, its all the way out now. i was thinking of turning it a full clockwise turn in tommorow when i get it started, i was also thinking of revving it to redline for 5 minutes constantly cuz i saw that on the search forums. help me out guys. i have no clue why it dies after idling for a minute, or just wont idle AT ALL. 5 minutes ago tho, it wont even idle if i push the gas down all the way, it just dies like its not getting any fuel, tried the fuse trick with the30 or 40 amp engine inj i fuse doesnt work. anyone know my problem? oh yea and 3 of my new plugs are silver and one looks different its like gold and white does that make any difference?

If it will only start on the first start of the day, you probably have low compression due to a blown apex seal, or you have a bad coolant seal. Both require a rebuild.

The screw in the top of the TB is the idle air bleed.
All the way out is full open.
Turn it about half way in then find the throttle stop screw & lock nut.
Adjust it to open the throttle 1 or 2 turns.

Once you get it to idle, it should purr.
An occasional random miss is no worry.
If you hear a rhythmic miss - like "mmPmmmPmmmPmm", you may have a bad seal.
A compression test will confirm its condition.

Wow...you make double what I make...****...I'd be happy at 12/hour! Sounds like the seal...But...I cannot be sure...

If it's all the way out, turn it all the way in (while counting turns), then turn it 1/2 way back out...Clockwise turns decreases the idle, CCW vice-versa...You sound like you might have other problems too (vac leaks, tired engine, AFM, who knows...)

Like SureShot said, do a compression test, then you'll know which direction to go from there...

thx guys, i wish i could keep my car i love it when it runs, but i might just sell it for a 92' fzr 600 to someone who wants a rx-7 parts car. i wish it would work for more than 10 minutes, dies even if i hold the idle up

Man, if we all sold our cars as soon as a problem popped up, nobody here on this forum would have an RX7...You HAVE to learn how to troubleshoot, using the Haynes, FSM, and this forum for direction...

Have you even done a compression test yet?
