Question Trivia: e-shaft endplay, what spacer???

To people that has done their own rebuild!..Im currently using a "V" spacer and my eccentric shaft endplay is only .003 to .004 of an inch. According to the shop manual the minimum endplay is .0016 of an inch. Can you tell me what spacer i should use???..

Here you go....

BUT FIRST... check to see of your thrust bearing slipped!

this is commonly the cause for this amount of freeplay!

Now the math:

the standard free play is: .0016 - .0028
What you have is: .003 - .004 (approx .0035)
What your spacer is (V): .3157

I will try to strike right down the middle.....

Mid range of std. end play is: .0022

so:

the total free play of the engine now, "V" spacer and all is:

.3157 ("V" spacer)
+.0035 (Your midrange end play)
---------
=.3192 (total engine play, spacer and all)
- .0022 (minus mid range of standard end play)
---------
=.3170 (this is the perfect spacer to get to have this play)

Since thereis no .3170 spacer, the check the closest one on the chart:

|STAMP | THICKNESS mm (in)
|======|================
| S | 8.12 (0.3197)
| T | 8.10 (0.3189)
| X | 8.08 (0.3181)
| K | 8.06 (0.3173)
| Y | 8.04 (0.3165)
| V | 8.02 (0.3157)
| Z | 8.00 (0.3150)

It would appear that a "K" spacer is your best bet at .3173 (only .0003 off your measurement)

BUT RECHECK YOUR THRUST WASHER ALIGNMENT FIRST!

At the most, fcturbo2 is off by 0.01" - 0.02".&nbsp The Torrington bearing is at least 1/16", which is easily 0.06" - I doubt it slipped.

NO. do you guys mean the needle bearing?..well i made sure that its not wedged on the spacer. I dont think it will slip since im measuring my endplay from the balance weight and not the flywheel. I also doubt that the bearing slipped since i have the face of the motor facing upward on the engine stand.

DO you recommend replacing the needle bearings???..

Also, did you guys know that they made "E" spacers???..yup!..it doesnt seem to show it on the spacer chart. It came off my 89+ Jspec motor that i took apart last year. It was a big spacer!..Also i didnt know that 89+ had wider needle bearings until i saw the one i pulled from the 89+ jspec..

What's getting me confused here is, we want to be in the standard endplay of .0016- .0029 of an inch endplay correct???..so this means that my .004" endplay is too small???..So does this mean i need .0012" more endplay to get to .0016"????In other words i need a spacer to give me positive endplay right????..Im so confused!..

You have 0.004"--that is MORE than the specified amount of 0.0016-0.0029.In order to REDUCE the end play to the specified range you must INCREASE the spacer thickness by 0.004 MINUS 0.0029,or if you want to go down to the minimum endplay then increase the spacer thickness by 0.004 MINUS 0.0016.

I recall telling you to get a K spacer.

why ask this question?

They sent a Z spacer and you question why theres a problem?

No need to apologise to me...m
I hate that they ended up wasting your time.

Did you understand and recheck my math?

You should, its your engine and ultimately its your time too.

Make sure you spend the few minutes required to perform the calculations yourslef and look at how they were done.

Let me know if you have questions.

I would hate to have led you wrong.
