getting the engine and tranny together can be tricky....keep trying to wiggle and move them together, it should go.

Yes. It's preferable to use an engine hoist with an adjustment that will allow you to change the angle... If you don't have this, it will be more difficult to jostle the engine into place--but of course it's still possible. Just be patient.

If no angle adjustment, you will find things a lot easier with two people. You may need to lift "up" on the transmission bellhousing, or push any number of ways on the engine so that the transmission imput shaft will finally slide in. Once it's actually "in", you will know. At this point you can try gently threading some of the engine/tranny bolts in place--just make sure that the "angle" of the transmission and engine mating surface is even... You don't want to force anything. If you do thread some bolts, make sure to go slowly, and work on several bolts at a time, so that you're not binding the engine to one side. Also make sure you are able to get the motor-mounts installed in their respective "slots"... You'll have to be creative--but it's not going to kill you.

Good luck!

Yeah You just need to wiggle it.

I just did this last weekend. Make sure the clutch is centered and stick the tranny shaft into the engine then wiggle it together and do some prying aroudn the motor mounts to get them to drop in and you'll be golden.

Also jack up the tranny as needed to get the engine and tranny at the same angle.

Next time you will know that you ALWAYS remove the tranny with the engine. So much easier.

Personally, if it were me, I would go ahead and remove the tranny, mount it to the engine and install it as one unit. Yes, it may take just a little bit longer, but the engine and tranny will be in allignment and you won't risk damaging anything.

if it were ME: I would put the Engine in First.then Tilt the Engine so that the *** is Down, and it looks like it is gonna Fly out of the engine bay(Fan up,*** down).and then Put the Trans on(that being the Trans WAS off the engien and also Off the car..with the Trans crossmember off)..I have put the Engine/Trans in as One unit and I had to take the Motor mounts themselves off the "feet".then Once it is in Lift the engine from one side and put in one mount then do the other side.

+10

if u spend more than 4 hours trying to get that thing in your way i'd consider dropping the tranny and bolting it up the engine and THEN putting it in. I did it myself at about 8 30 at night and was driving the car before 11 30. Makes things a lot easier.

i have put 4 engines in. never have a taken the tranny out... i could never deal with the dam exhaust boltS!

to the OP although others may say it will cause damage, i put the longest of the tranny bolts in were the shortest goes, and work my way around the engine putting them in the wrong spot until the right ones will fit, last engine i put it using this method took about 5 hours, from short block to filling up the coolant.

Over the years and several rx engine bays I would put the motor in without taking the tranny off with no unusual problems UNTIL this last time (on my own car of all things) it fought me tooth and nail until after two pilot bearings and 1 trip to Mazda I had to take out the tranny and then I still had to turn the motor on its face (pulleys down) to tap it in to get it to mate up.

Not sure what the hell that was about, but from my experience (normally) 1 man with a hoist should be able to maneuver the engine in.

BTW I usually don’t bolt anything to the block other than the water pump and mounts its way to much weight to maneuver with turbo, intake manifold...

good luck

LOL! thats just goes to show, no two methods are same, i leave the water pump off. but put on the turbo mani, LIM and Turbo, because the bolts are a bitch to get to once it's in the car. word.

Take the engine mounts off, then put them back on once the engine is mounted to the transmission.
