hopfully not
i was told by a tranny shop that my rebuild should be 'around one thousand' but that included pulling and replacing the tranny which had to have been 200+ alone

wow! thats a great site, everything is soo cheap!
$595.43 for a rebuilt tranny, and when you send in your old one it is a $300 core credit
**** $295 for a rebuilt tranny,
$1000 is way way off
and yeah the site also has rebuilt engines for about $1100.
i wish i had more money to spend freely,
so im probably going to rebuild it myself, for $175.
thanks a bunch Alex6969!

come on punch me a little harder, jezzz.
this is what the wbsite says
"We have Rebuilt Transmissions for your RX7, Just let us know what year you need, and we can ship a fully rebuilt transmission to your door. We disassembly the transmission and replace the bearing, synco's and anything else that needs to be. Warranty is for 12 month from date of purchase. the price is right plus a $300.00 core charge that would be refunded when the core is sent back. Give us a call with any questions."
you tell me???
i belive i could rebuild my tranny. as i am planning on rebuilding my motor some day.

it says that you give them the asking price and the $300...and when they get your tranny...you get the $300 back...so that means that you gotta ship YOUR tranny to them and pay for the tranny to come to you also...this is gonna be close to the 1K mark...
if you could rebuild it yourself then great!!! by all means do it!!
i just hope you have some knowledge, a good manual and paitence....
or maybe a friend that knows what they are doing..
no punches thrown, i just dont want you to get excited by the prices being thrown around in here...they sound cheap but you have to remember the little things that add up...AKA...shipping...plus the know how on rebuilding trannies...
good luck..

How hard is it to replace the synchros as opposed to swapping the transmission? I've had bad experiences with buying used trannies and I'd rather just fix the one I've got...

though i have never undertaken a rebuild of an rx7 trans, i have rebuilt 6 or 7 toyota transmissions and a couple honda trans axels...
i am a firm believer that a trans rebuild tend to be harder than an engine rebuild.
smaller parts, esp. detents... they can be a pain in the *** to track down if thy roll off your bench... the best advicee i can give anyone who is gonna rebuild... make a lip for your bench, so parts dont roll off.
also, you will need a shop press, or access to one. shops will do it for you, but they tend to rape you for very little work.
im about to undertake my first mazda trans and rotary engine rebuilds hopefully next weekend. im really looking forward to rebuilding the engine(somthing new!!! no more pistons!) the trans, im not too excited about, they tend to be easy, but they can be a royal pain in the *** when you misplace somthing.

In the list of parts under the diagrams of the FSM, there's 101 separate listings.
However, a lot of them are things like "Spring and *****". Obviously those are 2 separate things. Along with that, they're pointed to on the diagram in several different places.
Enjoy!

The last time I had mine done, I paid $600 Canadian at a reputable local transmission shop. This included replacement of the bearings, syncros, input and cluster shaft as well as the seals.
