tranny rebuild

have some question before i order parts. i will be getting a spare tranny to rebuilt so i when i drop one ill put in the other at the same time.
i assume i can drop the tranny without pulling the whole engine? is there a write up for this?
should the tanny be in a certain position when taken out? like in first, nuetral, or reverse?
i want to/will order parts for two rebuilds. please add comments, suggestions, tips, help, and anything i missed or over looked in parts. if there are parts i dont need to replace (becasue they dont tend to go bad) please tell me also. my two trannys were not abused. just old.

I snagged a lower mile tranny because mine was whining something fierce. Before I'm putting it in I'll be replacing the front seal, rear seal and trans front cover gasket.

Also, front cover is the cover that goes around the input shaft INSIDE the bell housing; you are thinking the tranmission pan on the turbo's.

Replacing the clutch fork/pivot is really only neccesary if there is a crazy amount of play on your existing one. But, they don't cost much; might as well.

so is this all i need? for the clutch fork and pivot ill order one set. i have a friend that has the mazda bearing puller so that should help a bit. i know its a PITA to do the tranny rebuild and that is why i already have the spare. i can take as long as i need to and make sure i do it right. someone please confirm these are all the parts i need. i want to order parts today. thanks.

ohh and for the clutch and flywheel, ill by a set off ebay in the range of 150-200. although im sure i can reuse the flywheel. i think i would just have to find an auto counterweight if i cant find a stock clutch.

PLEASE POST SOMETHING THATLL HELP ME. THANKS

Im not sure about rx7's but usually you dont need to replace the pivot and the fork, Just grease contacts on most cars. The tranny seals would b easiest to change at this time, but not always needed. Same goes for the clutch.

As far as the procedure of taking it out, you can take it out with the engine intact. You might even want to take off teh shifter, it will make things a little easier, on a lot of cars for that matter. There is a big nut on the flywheel if you are going to take that out

BTW, the title says "tranny rebuild", all you mentioned was taking off the tranny and resealing it with a possible clutch job. Not to sounds like a ********, jsut to let you know if you didnt already
