Uh, is this a trick question?
Are you trying to fill the tranny upside-down?

Your car is an 87 N/A, so you will fill it from the access hole on the Drivers side of the tranny. Square head threaded plug. You will put approx 2.7 qts into the tranny, and rule of thumb is you fill the tranny untill it starts leaking out of the hole.

Maybe time to get a Haynes manual or something?

Go to Home Depot and get three feet of clear hose. Put one end in the filler hole in the transmission. Insert the nozzle of your choice of tranny lube in the other end and let gravity take it's course. Like J-Rat said it will take 2.7 quarts or until it starts to dribble out of the filler hole. Of course you do have to keep the car level.

Unless you have a pump or a seringe, this is really a long job to get those 2,7 QTS of thick oil into a tube that's thin enough to fit in the filling hole

you don't really need to do the pump method, what i find works good is let gravity do the job for you.

get some good diameter hose long enough to go from the fill hole up to the engine bay, then just get a funnel and fill. usually takes about 15 minutes.
oh, and whatever you do make sure it's not freezing outside, it makes the oil thicker. but i guess most of you americans don't have to worry about that

- Aaron

PS: best advice i can give is make sure you can get the freaking fill plug out first BEFORE you take the drain plug out, lol

Hope it also said MT-90 on the front, otherwise you are using HP GL-5 gear oil in your tranny.

I don't know about the S4 but the S5 Owners Manual, Haynes Manual, and FSM all specify GL-5 grade gear oil for manual trannies.
