I've seen that happen once or twice in the past when there was an alternator problem with my car or when the battery was real, real low and i jumpered it. The tach did not work for several miles til I restarted the engine. Only happen once, maybe twice.
Makes sure the Trail coil assy is bolted firmly to the chassis. Even a single nut/stud will do but make sure all three are tight and there is no rust under the coil assy frame.
Make sure both electrical connectors are on good. Remove and reinstall them. Personally I've never had a coil fail. Lucky? gotme
