Question Trading my 2g awd Talon for tII?

Hey guys, I was made an offer by a local rotary head. He has a tII w/j-spec motor, the color is wrx blue and has 16" mesh enkie's and is in great running condition. He would like to trade for my 95 talon awd. I'm just starting the build up of my car but really like rx7's. As a matter of fact, I was looking to purchase one before I found the talon. Anyway, a non-biased opinion on the matter would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jerry

well...before you think about the rx, I'd compression test it first just to be sure that you ain't getting a fubared TII....especially if it has a Jspec in it....

Reason being is that Jspecs tend to require a rebuild before they're installed.

You may also want to consider the price of maintenence of an FC over the Talon...DSM parts are pretty cheap...

another thing you have to keep in mind is.....it takes a devoted rotorhead to keep up and maintain a t2...... you probubly just get in your dsm and go...no worries...... not so w/ a rotary....dont get me wrong.....im not by any means telling you it isnt worth it........ive had 7 fc's and dont think ill ever go a day without having at least one in my collection....

next thing.....what year is it???? makes a big difference in value from s4 to s5 (87-88, or 89-91)...... if its an s4, your better off selling your talon for the 5k+ and getting a prestine s4 w/ money left over to spend on goodies...... if its an s5 (89-91) then, its a pretty even trade, (that is if everything is in good working condition on both vehicles)... s5 t2s are pretty hard to find these days.....so you'd be scoring!

things to look out for........
-check to make sure the headlights go up and down, and all lights work (7's are notorious for electrical problems)
-check compression of that j-spec motor (as stated previously)
-coolant and oil for unusual odors, or colors.....i.e milky oil, or oil in the coolant
-check to make sure it idles good, and revs through to redline smoothly
-if at all possible, start it cold, to see if you get engulfed in exhaust smoke

thats about all i can come up w/ right now....if anyone can add to it.....please do

Check for rust under the rear bins, and under the wheel wells.

Watch it, cause the FC is almost a decade OLDER than your DSM.

Also, I dunno what kinda driving you do with the DSM, but your AWD will sometime compensate for "mistakes" in your driving technique.
The FC will bite you in the *** for it.
You will almost have to relearn how to drive the car all over again.

Ok, thanks guys. I'll keep that stuff in mind.

As far as just jumping in my DSM and driving off with no worries? Not even close. Check out dsmtalk.com or dsmtuners.com and you'll see what type of problems dsm owners have. Believe me, I know a thing or two about a car that needs constant upkeep. I just sold my 88 Mitsu. Starion a few days ago. What a money pit! lol!

So....

Thanks again
