Tps Q

I know it's been stated a few times.

I checked my TPS this weekend and I think it's bad but I want to run it by you guys.

My car doesn't do the roaming idle but it does idle randomly at 800(initial start up)
1500 and 1800-1900 rpm. It doesn't fluctuate. It will stay level but it's random.

With the car warmed up I checked the resistance. with the throttle linkage at where 800 rpm would be it measures 1200-1270 ohms.

I then did a sweep and the TPS went to around 4400 ohms.
It had a spot where the digital mutlimeter did hit inifiniti (around 3k ohms).

I then checked the voltage. It's in the 1.2-1.3volt range.

I tried to bring the resistance down to 1k and I managed 1.020k ohms.

I then started the car and it still idled at 1500 rpm.
I drove it real quick to see how it ran. As soon as I stopped and idled it proceeded to idle hunt between 1500 and 1800 rpm.(kinda cool if you want to sound like a small bridgeport or something.)

I then adjusted the TPS up until it stopped hunting.

Oh yeah. I've already checked the BAC and it's not leaking.

I'm trying to think of items whidch would make it idle so high.

Just a guess but maybe putting in a new water temp sensor in the water housing?

The throttle linkage is fine and not binding.

You still have vac leaks you can't find, Digi?

Tweak the voltage on it to exactly 1v at idle (see if you can get it to find 750 rpm)...I like to do this at the ECU itself...

Does she backfire any on decel?

Do you have cruise control? That cable can bind as well. Besides binding, you should also check free play.

Have you looked for/solved any vacuum leaks? Vaccum is one of the biggest problems with these engines. If you have any origonal brittle black rubber vacuum lines replace them now. (don't forget the ones under the UIM going to the oil injectors)

No cruise control. I have disconnected the throttle linkage completely from the pedal. I have the hardset idle screw set to exactly 800 rpm.

I know I have atleast one leak in the TID(started to tear near turbo). Hmm good point though. Gotta fix that.
Also. From day one the cars vacuum has been bad. it's on a 1 to 100 ratio under 1500 rpm. 800 rpm == 8 vacuum ...

Maybe I shoud start running over the whole setup again. I think I do have a stripped LIM bolt on the front iron.

ALL vac lines are brand new Hose techniques ones.

I do back fire on decel randomly. But People always say I throw small flames when I shift(RB dp to presilencer to 3 inch catback).

Thing is that when I tune the adjustment screw for the TPS it starts to hunt for the idle 1500-1800 rpm. So I just started to increase the screw until it stopped hunting.

It seriously gets a bridgeport style idle when the TPS range was down to 1k ohms.

OK, here's my guesses...Strangely enough, they're the same as yours, lol...

You definetly have a good vac leak. Or a shot engine. And we know it's not the latter

Decel backfires are a good indication of a misadjusted TPS...

I think you need to fix your vac problem before you ever mess with the TPS, though...
