TPS + Multimeter = stall?

I've been trying to probe my TPS via a multimeter for the 1k ohm setting, and....

It fails. Horribly. Every time I start to probe it, the car promptly stalls/dies after about 1 second.

Is this indicative of anything? If not, is there a particular implication it makes/needs to be addressed?

I know I have TPS issues, but having difficulty setting the TPS doesn't particularly help this....
