tps issue

so ive been having the bouncing idle and the "bucking" that ive been reading about, that has to do with the tps supposably... so yesterday i decided to take some time to check it out. (oh by the way i have a 87 turboII with a s5 turbo and manifold) so i took my intercooler off and was looking how the tps is set up on a rotory. i loosened it up and was just seeing how it all was set up. tightend it back up right where it was to begin with. and then went to get my voltmeter when i discovered it was missing... buddy took it awhile ago and hasnt returned it... so i decided i would just have to wait to mess with it till i got the meter back. so i put my intercooler back on, went to start it and it shot up to 4grand instantly. then slowly climbed to 4500 and then started bouncing from 4500 to 5500 and would not fall at all.... so what the firetruck did i do!?!?!?! this is my only car and need it to run asap. so any help would be greatly appreciated!

The tps is very sensitive. Get a voltmeter and set it to spec. I had the bouncy idle thing also at cold start up because I fooled around with it thinking i was adjusting the idle. Got a voltmeter set it to spec and has been perfect every since. Goodluck

I have the specs sheets in my office at work. I'm pretty sure its between 0.8-1.0 closed. If its a simple adjustment you'll be relieved when its runs perfect after the adjustment. Goodluck

You can set it via the test light method without a multimeter (<$5.00 for 2-12v lights, and some spade connectors from Radio Shack).

This is my first rx7 and learning all the issues and how to fix them is just part of the fun of owning an rx7. This was one of my first problems with the car so i'm glad to pass my knowledge from this issue to help in assisting you.

so i discovered my problem.... tps was stuck and wasnt able to adjust in and out. so got that fixed but broke one of the mounting bolts in the throttle body so now time to drill and tap and i think i might be all good to try to adjust again.

If I've learned one thing from owning an rx7 is that you need to be careful when messing with anything threaded. Get yourself a torque wrench + tighten EVERYTHING to spec. If you can't find what it is, just look it up for what size bolt you have. You'll get a good feel for things. I found I was over torquing everything. That + PB blaster is your best friend.

so i have another quick question to whomever may have the answer for me... so if you look at my image (sorry for the crappy quality) im not quite sure what its called, but its the pivitol arm on the side of the throttle body where the cam adjustment screw is connected too. so the red arrow is pointing at im guessing some sort of actuater, which is connected to where the green arrow is pointing too, and the blue arrow at the bolt that holds it all together.. but the "actuator" will not get tight and sit in one spot. ive tighted the bolt down as far as i feel confortable without breaking/stripping anything and it just floats still... is this normal????

Not supposed to be tight. It's the rod for the Oil metering pump down below on the right front side of the engine.

I too have been having what I have recently been told was a TPS issue. When starting the car cold, it will rev for a while until the car reaches operating temperature and then idle normally. Also, I noticed that I have a huge loss of power. As a result, I have been asking some of the rotary mechanics in the area what they thought. When I am driving the car (90 GXL) and reach about 4k RPM, the car just acts like it died...No power at all. It doesn't actually stall the car out but you do need to ease off of the gas or shift up...This only seems to happen in second gear but it has taken place in first once. On the lower end of the RPM level, the car seems just fine. I suppose I'll have a look at that link and try to find a replacement sensor.

Well my car appears to have a fuel issue since I get a huge bog when the car is going to boost, now the car isn't charging the battery so I suspect the alternator went bad. I have jumpy rpms and if I unplug the ground wire from the battery with the car on it will stall right away.

Need to fix that first and then see if I still get the fuel bog. Weird thing is that I took the car to the dyno and I didn't have the the bog and made a full pass @ 12psi
