just over 150 mph in modded TII. got a little iffy after that so let off. definately more there but need much more fuel system mods and such to continue. i can see over 160 with the right setup and right road.

Both RPMs and speedometers get very very wacky at higher speeds guys... you've probably all gone about 130mph. =p

I have not tested the top speed of my '88 N/A yet, but it is modified slighty more than my old '87 N/A which I used to own, and the highest speed I reached in that car was around 135 mph. I say around because I believe that Bob is correct, however at the time I had 17" Enkei wheels all around with 225/45/17 tires. Bigger diameter turning at the same RPM means you're going faster than with stock whee's/tires, but if the speedometer's off by a little bit how can you really tell for sure the TRUE top speed? I don't think I was going 135, but I guess I'll never know....

The fastest I've gone in this car is 125 INDICATED mph, and I've only done that twice. Too many tickets already, and I'm waiting to go to traffic school in two weeks. If you get a ticket while still waiting to take traffic school, then you don't get to go to school to erase the ticket, and you end up with TWO tickets instead of one. I got the ticket almost a year ago (they've been really backed up here on getting people in) so I haven't taken any risks for a long time.

Anyway, I agree with Bob the Normal.

My s5 n/a went 145(spedo)mph this was in 99 or 00, so I dont remember if I switched before 140 to 5th or I went all of forth till a lil past redline, and let off as soon as I switched to 5th... It took a bit of time to get up there, my vert could probably do that 3 or 4x's quicker. And as to 5th gear redline? that **** is crazy, your tranny probably wouldnt like you very much and I doubt these trannies would even hold out that long.... and not to mention your motor, thats probably the highest ammount of stress that you could put on the motor.. Not to mention its hard enough getting an n/a to hit the end of 4th, I just dont even want to think about, riding out an overdrive gear..

I have had my '88 N/A up to 130 - I was redlining 4th gear & 5th wouldn't really pull any more than a mile or two. I was running down A1A past the nuclear power plant out on the barrier island at about 3:00 AM. I had about 5 miles to run it out good. My goal is to redline 5th some day. What would that be 160? I would like to bury the speedo needle. Is the car stable at that high speed? What are the limits of the standard design anyway? I know my car handled excellent the whole time - no worries or shakes - just solid flying down the freakin' road. I haven't made a run lately 'cause the hurricanes damaged the island road & 911 put the Nuke plant on alert & all the dump trucks have trashed A1A. So I lost my high-speed run. I got a new one but have been reluctant to run the car to the pins.

after about 110 you really start understanding why race cars have splitters and spoilers coming out the wazoo.

Ok my own personal experiance is 145 MPH in a bone stock 87 T2 with 60k miles on it. It scared the **** outa me but it would have gone faster!

I got a old magazine around here some where, it came with the car , said that the top speed was 155 mph, old car and driver or such. I wanna say it was drag limited too.

My 91 vert with broken VDI & 6 port does about 110 with the top down.

heh, i didn't read through all of the drivel since there was so many different answers. basically i would say it would top out at about 160 with those size wheels/tires. your speedo will be off by about 12MPH over your actual speed at that speed, so if your speedo sais 172 then you would actually be doing about 160.

that is at least what i noticed on my speedo with those exact same size tires comparing my actual speed to a speed test machine.

That's wierd my 87 gxl with 3.9 rear lsd can only manage about 130 in 4th at like 7k?

like i said, there is a lot of BS floating around here. no way in hell an FC would do 147mph in 4th unless it had some 44" super swamper mud tires on it and good luck with the power those things would drag down and the speedo would still read a lot lower than it was going...

i think some people here need to put the pipe down.

Highest speed I have reached is close to 160 before I backed off, it was shaking to much.

Last year I payed a ticked kind of late. I toght i was gona pay fees for paying it late, but they were so backed up that they waived the late fees... Havent gotten a tiket since, gas to expensive to drive fast, so I keep it at a steady 79mph.....
