I would go with KYB AGXs. Those don't sound like too much of an upgrade.

KYB GR-2's suck. those shocks can go to hell.

they're ride is not very good, and almost feels like stock shocks. tokico HP's are much better and a significant difference over the GR-2's. it's because of the GR-2's that i constantly ate crap from bottoming out on rough corners and potholes alike.

for the price, it will be hard to beat tokico blue's HP

KYB GR-2's are OEM replacement.
Tokico HP's are upgrades performance non-adjustables.

There's a guy who is selling a set for $240 $20 shipping on eBay.
That's a damn good deal for those not needing any adjustments.

i just finished installing a set of tokico HPs and eibach prostreet springs in my 91 n/a. I
have only had the car a few weeks, but I am very pleased with how that setup worked out. Especially considering my previous vehicle was an Integra. I can't believe how shitty hondas handle compared to the RX7.

Actually, the later model Tegs run double wishbone suspension, and in theory they are supposed to be better handling.
(Boy, am I going to take **** for this one...)

I used to own a 93 sho taurus 5 speed and when i bought the car it had kyb gr2s on it which on the shos was 5 % stiffer than stock. I replaced them with tokico hp's and man what a difference. The only adjustable strut for shos was the koni insert and i didnt feel like having to take an insert and adapt it to a strut shell so i bought the hp's. I then used some intrax lowering springs on it and the tokicos loved them. For the money if your looking at non adjustable struts go for the tokicos, i give them my thumbs up. I would only assume that the similar effect would take place on rx7s, but i dont know. I had illuminas on my 85 se and my 84 gs but i bought both that way already so ive never driven a 1st gen rx7 with the stock setup so i cant directly compare. On the other side of the spectrum my vert has stock suspension, and i havent driven a second gen thats modified so i cant attest there either. But if its anything like the shos then go for the tokicos!

I have no experience with the KYB shocks. But I'm currently running the Tokicos and I must say they are a nice set of struts for non-adjustables. I'd recommend them to anyone.
