TII with no sunroof?

Probably easier to explain if we take the GTU as an example. The GTU had the sunroof as an option. So, if I had a particular GTU with the sunroof, I could remove it and convert the roof to a solid configuration (weld some sheet metal roughly the same thickness as the roof to close the hole) because the GTU was also available without a sunroof.

You could modify the sunroof with a small hump ford gt40 style and make brackets to bolt it solid.
There is also a carbon fiber sunroof you could try your luck with. I haven't heard of anyone actually with it, but it's priced decent and would eliminate the rotting oem unit. http://www.c7carbon.com/mazda-86-91-...rbon-fiber-180

Thats not exactly gonna work. You've proven that non-turbo models existed without sunroofs, but you have not proven that turbo models existed without sunroofs (from Mazda, clearly they exist all over the forums. Those don't count).
I have my answer, which is basically the sunroof must stay in stock configuration according to the rules I am bound by. I'd close this thread since I think its going to devolve very quickly, but I don't seem to have that option.

other markets had the turbo without sunroof, just not the US.

I'm thinking that doesn't help. The relevant rules:
Cars running in Street Prepared Category must have been series produced
with normal road touring equipment, capable of being licensed
for normal road use in the United States, and normally sold and delivered
through the manufacturer’s retail sales outlets in the United
States.
Sunroof-equipped cars may be converted to a solid-roof configuration
provided a model without a sunroof is listed on the same line in
Appendix A.
Appendix A:
Mazda:
RX-7 Turbo (1986-92)
The "and normally sold and delivered through the manufacturer’s retail sales outlets in the United States." is probably what kills the non-US market theory. I'm not aware that you could import a Canadian (or Japanese) RX-7 through the US Mazda dealership.

How about a Puerto Rican Mazda dealership? Could they be purchased without the sunroof option there? Should be "in the US" enough to qualify. Sorry if it sounds silly, but I think we've exhausted all normal avenues for qualifying the mod. Now we are looking for technicalities.

remember SCCA = Secret Concourse Car Association. this is the group that mandates the correct interior A pillar trim be on a race car.
so you must have a sunroof in a T2, as this is how it was offered in the US, and unlike a normal concours, you don't get deducted points, you just don't race.
