1. your 16, it is illogical (but fun ) to own a car as a teenager.... drive your parents car... (as much as it sux...) (ok, so I don't really expect you to not get a car... but financially it is illogical.... (that didn't stop me though.. ))

2. Bikes are great... maybe get a cheaper downhill bike though... AND you'll stay in shape...

3. Maintenance and gas money... enough said...

Well I got an S13 Hatch, and was considering that if I was gonna get another car, that it would be between the FC and SW20.

Why is it illogical to have a car as a teenager?

I bought my PGT when I was 15, thus before I had my license. It was great having my own car... There were a few instances during which my mom and I had to share either her vehicle or mine, and it sucked ***.

I guess it helps that I never had payments, but still. I'd rather work a little harder to afford insurance and gas than have to mooch off of mommy all the time.

yeah I put the bike in there for a joke, I have a nice freeride bike already (Rocky mtn RM7) that bike is sick enuf for me. about the car thing, my dad drives his to work and works 100hr weeks so i never see him or the car, the other car in the family is a ML430 that i will never drive as my mom says " you wont be able to pry the keys from my dead cold fingers" I think ill go with the TII mostly for price reasons. I cant really afford a MR2 turbo, and the parents are not helping me at all. But i really need to find a job to afford either. thanks all for your imput

You will get more chicks witha 9k downhill bike! Or you can get laid more by buying a trials bike. You will save 7k and get laid more with a nice little Echo or Megamo. No need for a 50lbs 9k bike when you can have a 20lbs 2k bike. I rather buy trials bike because I dont have enough ***** to haul *** down a hill on a 9k bike. I like hopping in place...

If you can get a 93+ SW20, go for that. The engine is very reliable, mine went up to 120k then had the turbo rebuilt, then just kept on going. Working on the car is quite a bitch...but it's very fun to drive. Make sure it's a turbo, I see so many people in SoCal widebody and fix up their NAs, then try to sell it cause their car looks nice, but ends up being extremely slow.

my friend has an MR2 like you want, and so far my TII has had better relayablity (sp). Plus he has done a whole bunch of work to his car, less than me to mine, and mine is still faster. Something about removing the TVIS and port matching something? I don't pay attention to him..

have you ever done a clutch change on even a N/A MR-2? No? Then keep it that way.. it was a PAIN.. me and a few friends helped Jim (Raptor13x) do the clutch/flywheel swap on his '91 N/A MR-2 and you basically had to unbolt everything in the engine bay to do it.. not fun

$800 for clutch/flywheel

you've never done it.. trust me.. we had 3 guys, two of whom had some experience with cars, another who worked mostly on classic domestics, but did a little bit of everything here and there.

It took us I swear about 50+ man-hours to do the friggin' thing. Now if we knew exactly what we had to do it would have been a little quicker, but still no less of a bastard fix.

50+ man hours!!! When I changed out my tranny for the first time in my FD, it took me about 7 hours. That's with NO experience, and by myself!

Picture the engine bay of a Honda Civic, but cut the available space down to about 1/4 of the space in a Civic.

This ain't no tranny swap on a Front engine RWD vehicle we're talking about here. MR is a whole nother ballgame.

Having owned both cars, I'll say this: (silence)

I'll get flamed to hell for saying this, but I think that the MR-2 is a superior car in many respects... It's hard for me to think of (what I would consider) the advantages of the RX over the MR, but here are a couple:

The RX-7 is a fun car - really really fun. I think that pushing the MR-2 to its limits requires much more concetration and skill - but is faster as a result. The 7, if pushed too hard, just slides something silly (the young ones call it drifting).

MR-2: point, boost, and shoot
RX-7: point, boost, and countersteer!

The RX-7 has TONS of space on the inside compared to the MR-2. Especially if you've gutted the trunk in your MR-2 for a GT-R intercooler!!!

Aftermarket - depends on how much HP you want... RX-7's can get it with nothing more than exhaust and remapped injectors. The MR-2 takes a little more finesse (but I pulled 320 out of my J-spec with just exh, boost, and fuel, so YMMV).

So anyway, let me know if you buy the MR-2 and you want to get serious: otter-public@excite.com

I have brand new Toda Racing cams, Cusco fully adjustable suspension w/ HKS pillow-ball uppers, and a lot of other great stuff for the MR-2 if you're interested...

I've read that pretty much stock they can take about 17psi (i think this was on stock turbo also)

I personally like the mkIs. they are dirt cheap, have a 4age and handle incredible. With that 9k you can get a TII and a MKI. I really want one as a daily, 24+ MPG!.
Beats my gas guzzling FCs, well not that bad.

ever considered a 85+ fiero gt fastback, shouldn't cost more than 3k, mid 15s stock and for another 2k you can drop a v8 in there(remember the car was originally designed for a v8, hell the engine mounts are already there for it)
