TII guys, does your turbo act up on you sometimes?
Sometimes my turbo spools up real fast and I get good rush low-end, it just gets up and go starts coming alive strong at 2500rpm. Othertimes, like lately...its taking a while to spool up like not until a good 3500rpm does it come alive. I was wondering if some of you guys experience the same things...last time this happened, I changed my OIL to some fresh clean oil and it did the trick! Anyone knows what's up with those things?

The COAK happens from not cooling down the car properly after its been driven. Ever since I got my turbo, I've always run it for 2 1/2 minutes on the turbo timer before shutting it off. SO I don't think I personally have a oil coak problem, I do believe mine is related to a misadjusted TPS...which I'm going to look into.

ROSH- I had the same problem when I first bought my 87 TII. I fixed dualscroll actator, intake leaks and boost leaks; still had lack of boost just sometimes. Turned out the precat was broken up and sometimes blocked flow-sometimes didn't. Do you still have the main cat; maybe it is doing similar thing to you?

Rosh,
I have an '87 TII. It does exactly the same thing. I don't have any cats, have a 3"DP, Bonez Main Cat replacement pipe, and some crappy muffler shop mufflers. I have changed ALL the intake and exhaust gaskets, put a new TID on, did complete tune up, rebuilt injectors, turbo LOOKS good but sometimes it won't boost more than 1/4 into the positive range on the factory gauge. Other times it boosts to 3/4 on the factory gauge. I even ran it with only the down pipe attached (no mufflers) and it still wouldn't go above 3/4 into the pos. range. The car runs great other than this. I can only assume that the turbo must have some drag in it. I spun turbine when I had the TID off and it seems to stop right away....only a few turns...not sure how free it should spin. Can anyone tell us (describe) how easy it should be to turn the compressor wheel with the TID removed?????
Todd
PS. Temp. does not make a difference either, sometimes it will be 20 deg. outside and it still won't boost above 1/4....and it can be hot out and boost to 3/4....depends on the day. I have tried a new boost pressure sensor with no change.
