threads in one of the tension bolt holes is screwed!

I have a problem with the very top tension bolt hole in the front plate. The threads are screwed and I've tried retapping it but it is no use. What would you guys do?

1. Get new front plate
2. Get the stud kit and machine
3. drill the hole out a little thicker and use that stuff that you can put in there to retap the original hole. Not sure what it's called but they have it at like advanced.

Any Ideas would be great! If you say front plate is the way to go I'll do it. Really don't want a weak link in the setup but if it's something that I can fix I'd rather not have to spring for another front plate. Thanks guys.

Just get a plate. I personaly want so advanced auto parts crap holding my tension bolts, and retapping it would make it a different size thread.

If possible, get another one.

If you can't, there is nothing wrong with a Heli-Coil.

people have used helicoils on head bolts on v8s... and they are generally in the 60-90lbs range, depending on the engine... those held up...

if anyone can find an m10x1.0 heli-coil I would be greatly appreciative! I've searched on the internet everywhere.

nevermind, just found one. 67.92 plus shipping..........I guess it's still worth it when you think about the hassle of a new plate, measuring clearance and possibly having to get a new spacer.

edit: hahaha splin very funny (sarcasam) I went everywhere in town and they didn't have anything. searched on the net and that one was hard to find. Finally found it at http://www.northstate.com/helicoil/en-us/dept_7.html.

That sounds like a "master kit".
This should include the proper drill bit size, tap, Heli-Coil insert tool, and several Heli-Coil inserts.
The master kit makes it easy if you don't have too many tools at your disposal.
If you want to save money, you can get just the Heli-Coil inserts by themselves.

Check out McMaster-Carr -> http://www.mcmaster.com/

Yeah your right man, I got the damn kit.... Thought there was something to it besides heli-coils. I've got all the bits and taps etc... oh well, lesson learned. Thanks again for that advice man.

the tension bolts are a rather odd size/pitch so it would be harder to find in that size locally.

yeah that size was impossible to find in my small *** town. And really that place on the net was the only place I could find the "master kit" I did find the inserts at a few places but of course I didn't know I could have used just the inserts but thats ok.
