I have had things stolen from me before. When it happens you feel violated. You feel like killing the person that did it. It doesn't mean that you would do it but you want to. It's a horrable feeling to have something that you value takin by a low life thief.

As far as your "Americanism at its best" coment, You know where you can shove it.

This has nothing to do with America. And it is obvious that you know NOTHING about America at it's best. People steel other peoples stuff all over the world.
Mike
No, it's not his fault he got ripped off. But let's face facts: People steal. Get used to it. If you have $1800 worth of stereo, you buy an alarm as insurance. Not having one is like driving without car insurance. Sure, you doubt you're going to crash and have to pay for someone's injuries, but you have it just in case you do cause an accident...

As for the Americanism... J-Rat was right. It was directed at the shooting comment. It is hard to argue that your stereo-typical American takes its' personal rights too seriously (Every citizen has the right to a firearm, or so forth- not too burshed up on American History or laws). But let's be honest: that right was passed during era's of revolution. It doesn't apply in today's world.
(generalization) The typical American solution to every crime seems to be, "Let's shoot him." Again, let's face facts. Breaking the law is breaking the law, regardless of severity. Stealing is stealing. If you saw a friend take a stapler from work, I bet you wouldn't tell anyone. But by your logic, you should pull out a gun and shoot him on the spot. Would you shoot someone for taking a McDonald's french fry from your lunch without asking?

How about all the threads we see on here: "How do I get out of speeding tickets?". Everyone here responds, ie: go to court, the cop won't show up. But the fact is, the guilty should be punished. Why allow one law to go unpunished, and yet be so harsh on another? Speeding risks lives. Is your life not worth more than your stereo? Would you shoot someone for speeding? No one who ever fights a speeding ticket should ever bitch about "theft". Talk about hypocrisy.

I am by no means saying crime is justifiable, but just the opposite. Break the law, be punished for what its worth, no more, no less. We can't allow people to get away with one law, and be so harsh on another.

And yes, people steal all over the world. Certain area's are worse than others. My area of the country, Vancouver/Surrey, have incredible levels of crime.

.40? BAH Since we now have these ghey 10-round max capacity laws on handguns, get the biggest round you can. The sweet .45's that para ordnance makes will shoot a .45+P round with no problem (mean *** round, basically a .45ACP that goes supersonic unlike the old 800fps .45ACP)

As for rifles, I don't believe these are considered to be an assault weapon: In fact, looking at the springfield page www.springfieldarmory.com they have a special "california legal" version. How does 20 rounds of 7.62MM NATO strike you? (hint:painfully)

Rant on:

I think we should use the laws they use in the Middle East. You steal, you get caught, they cut off your hand. You know why they do that? Because they don't use toilet paper. So you eat with the same hand you wipe your *** with. You know what that's called? E. coli. You know what that gives you? Diarrhea. Then, suppose you are dumb enough to steal again... They cut off your other hand... You know what that means? You starve, and you can't **********. No woman will touch you, because you have no hands. You pee all over yourself because you can't hold your wiener. Then, you walk around with **** stains on your pants, because you can't wipe. It also means you can steal exactly TWICE. Unless you can take my stereo with your teeth, and quite frankly, if you can pull that off, you can have it.

Rant off.

Saturday night someone broke into my 91 convertible. they knifed the top and then tore up the side as well. Then I guess he couldn't unlock the door, so went ahead and broke the window too. They took my Apline CD player and my sunglasses. I had just taken the AMP and the sub out of the car, but man what a mess.
same thing with the cops here. no one showed up. they took the report over the phone and gave me a case number to turn to my insurance. I had sold the car, and they were picking it up, so I had called and cancelled my insurance. I'm totally screwed since I refunded the money to the guy who had bought it and now I have to run around for two weeks fixing the top and the glass. the top is not going to be cheap. ****. **** ****. PS: I guess the factory security system in the car didn't work.

Weak, passive Canadian perspective. Don't you get it? It's not just a stereo theft. It's a personal violation, an assault and an insult all in one. Hell yes I'd shoot anyone destroying what I've worked so hard to assemble! I worked to earn the money to afford these things, I've worked hard to acquire them and I've worked hard to install them.

God Damn! Your passivity makes me sick!

It is really amazing the laws in the US. Here is Jersey I have friends on various police forces, and in Trenton, they arrest young men for car theft, released, out on the street doing it again. Rap sheets as long as their arms. My father in law was warden of the NJ State Prison, and inmates followed him from one prison to the next. Their whole life spent behind bars. Where's the 3 strikes and your out? People on death row for 20 years. Rediculous.
Years ago I had a modified Chevy. Really beautiful condition. Just got the car finished the week before, and it was stolen from in front of the Warden's residence on Thanksgiving day. Never got it back.

We've had our house burglarized and several things taken from cars over time by people who felt they were entitled to them. Even though the things were not of great value, the sense of violation lasts a long time.

It breaks my heart to have to explain to my kids that that's how the world is. It also throws out the window the idea that your home is a "safe haven" from all the world's ills.

I hate the bunker mentality that many people are now adopting for their peace of mind. I resist it as much as possible, yet I find myself still checking and rechecking locks, windows, alarm systems, etc. I long for the days that you can leave your front door open, and not have to worry about some miscreants helping themselves.

It seems just about everyone here wants tougher laws and/or punishment for crimes like theft and vandalism. If we are a typical cross-section of society, why isn't it happening?

I'd shoot someone for breaking into my car/house. Back of the knee cap (I'm a good shot, especially under pressure) assuming I could get as shot at it. That way, every step they took for the rest of their life would remind them of what they did...

Thinking about vengence is great inside your heads, but this is the exact sort of thing that is tearing up Israel and Palistine (eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth, sound familiar?).

Either get over it and get on with your life, or be fools and possibly get hurt or killed yourselves. If you catch a person in the act of committing a crime, CALL THE POLICE.

Unless your life is in danger, don't take any action. You could be outnumbered or out gunned and could get injured or killed yourself. It is just not worth it.

Oh, I did see the pics myself and it is distressing, but you'll be able to rebuild, and better than before. An alarm is a good idea, but doing an installation that looks factory and keeps components out of sight is even better. That is the philosphy that I go by when I do installations (I've done installs from basic headunit to full separate amp, speaker/subs). In each of them, I do my best to keep equipment secured and out of sight.

Oh, and I do have a driver side window if you want to buy.

I think stealing is a very serious crime but its not worth killing someone just because they stole less than 2 grand from you . You do feel violated because you had to make your money by pouring hours into work while some theft can just walk by and walk away with all of it in about 15 mins or less.

I've only read the last page of this thread, but here is my 2 cents. Anyone that is advocating killing another person for stealing is out of their mind. Yeah stealing definately sucks no two ways about it, but death? Come on. Personally I know that I could not sleep at night if I killed someone for no reason. I own several weapons and I have a CWP and carry my glock 23 now and then. The only reason EVER to take a gun out is if you or someone else is in bodily harm. That is the law in florida. If someone enters your home or business, regardless of if this person has a weapon, if they are there illegally you can shoot them. I think this is called the castle doctrine or something. Basically if you shoot someone for any other reason you will lose your guns for sure and possibly alot more.

If someone entered my home and did not obey my commands is definately going to get shot. I always think about shooting some drunk *** friend or person that stumples into the wrong house by mistake. That would not be good.
My car is parked right outside my bedroom window, and if my alarm ever goes off I will be out there armed and if I see anyone there I would tell them to stop and if they didn't I would shoot into the ground, and if I couldn't catch them I would call the police. I would not shoot at someone in that situation at all.
As for .45 caliber being so great--i'll take my .40 cal 15 round capacity loaded with 1800 fps ammo. If that does not stop what is coming at me than I have a BIG problem.

Oh, I don't like guns. I've held a few, but never fired one. I prefer to use my head, my phone, and whatever else is on hand to resolve a situation. Shooting someone, unless your life is in danger, is guaranted to give you a bad case of insomnia.

Jeff88, I also appreciate guns and how dangerous they are. Even Police Officers are trained not to fire their weapons unless absolutely necessary.

Calm down, and THINK before acting.

I could go a modified form of the Middle Eastern customs though, maybe amputate the end of one pinky finger first, and go on from there with each subsequent crime. The threat of jail time isn't enough, and if they do go in the slammer for a while, the taxpayers are stuck footing the bill for their meals, recreation, etc., etc.

you know what?!?! if someone is breaking into your car and you just happen to see them doing it, and you happen to have a handgun by your side, and you DONT shoot, you are an absolute ******* idiot. this stuff can NOT be tolerated...what are you gonna do, stay inside you house, hide and call the cops while they are getting away with your valuble items? hell NO, i know IM gonna go out there and either shoot him, or beat the living **** out of him untill he almost dies.

my friend just got his car broken into 3 days ago, they didnt get away with anything luckily because we caught them in the act when the alarm went off (if one of us had a gun right then and there i would of willingly shot those *************, maybe not kill them but stop them in thier tracks) they run to a near by SUV, and take off, my friend hops in his car and chases them, only to find out when he pulls up side of them that THEY had a gun, and they pulled it on him, after seeing that he took off, and they got away ( WHAT DO YOU KNOW?!? ) now if we could of shot them instead, and injured them so they cant run ANYWHERE, they would of been scar'd for life, AND went to jail! then maybe they would think twice about trying to jack someones prized possession again.

if you wouldnt shoot at someone for this, then so be it, let them take your **** and get away with it. i know im getting a top of the line alarm before i go and install thousands of dollars worth of equipment into my car, and you guys should too!

this is the kind of **** that really pisses me off!

You guys need to think about what happens after you shoot someone for breaking into your car/house. You're defineately going to court, you will probably get sued up the butt, and you may go to jail. You can only use deadly force when someones LIFE is being threatened.

I have no doubt I would be pissed the same way. But thats why gun control is having such a hay-day and taking away all our gun owning rights. Would it be worth it to LOSE your car after you shoot the guy breaking into it? Yeah, its a sad world we live in, but you still have to follow the rules.

Guess what? That kind of stuff pisses me off too! But, when it comes down to it, our cars can be replaced, human life (even as low as those who would dare harm our cars) can not.

To everyone who gets up a head of steam over this thread: calm down.

Oh, and if I were in this situation, and if I were holding a hand gun, I would still NOT shoot anyone.

Yell, wave your arms, call 911, but don't chase them down and beat or shoot them.

BTW, if you do see a crime in progress, get a good look at the suspect, if they have a car take down the make/model/color and license plate, call the police, and most importantly, keep CALM.

Not everybody steals and gets away with it.

Hey Cluosborne, we have an RX-7 club in Michigan. go check out the regional forum, there are a bunch of posts there. My roommate is actually from Oscoda. sorry for being off topic.

I agree though, there are a lot of screw ups out there. Some people DO learn from their mistakes. It ain't worth it for you or them to take their life.

I work in retail, and I love helping catch thieves!

Now if they are coming at you with a gun, by all means...

Man, i have a 12GA Winchester Model defender (8 rds of 00buck will make ANYONE wanna change their mind, hell, just the --click click-- noise itself probably will). I hear so much as a creak outside/inside, my *** is gung-hoe with that ****. Im sorry to hear about your loss man, but at least it wasnt your freinds.

Someone on the forum, one of my "freinds" stole my ******* S-AFC from my room (only about 5 people knew about that ****...). How is that for violation?

About the alarm, there are theives in the US (and other places, but i think Scathart and others underestimate car theives) that can disassemble nearly a whole ******* car in a matter of minutes, but a measly 100 dollar alarm is going to protect your ****, my ***. I soon will have video survailence on my **** with a flood light and an alarm that sounds in my room when its triggered.

Sorry again for your losses man, i hope you bag the *******.
