For those with 99+ Mustang GT wheels-> Centercap Idea
After many weeks of calling places trying to find some blank center caps for my '03 GT wheels, I decided to just do something with the stock ones I had. Originally, there is a "pony" emblem that is raised in the center of the cap.
What I did was sand down this center, and then paint it. Originally, there was some worry that by sanding it down you may wear a hole into the centercap, because of the way the emblem looks to be pressed in from the other side. I however, did not encounter this problem, but be sure not to sand any more than necessary. 1st, when reacing into the box where I keep my sanding supplies.. I was bit by this little bastard who decided to make his home there :
Anyway, I did sand it down, mask of an outline of where I wanted to paint, gave it two coats of metallic black in the center, and then cleared the whole cap. Let me know what you think. I was originally going to try and match the silver, but I dont think I couldve came exactly right with the color, and I think a mis-matched silver would look alot worse than black.

nice, but you may want to extend the black all through the spoke centers, first with black tape to see how it looks, then with paint it you like it.

It's not bad but it makes the nice wheels look like cheap aftermarkets. Honestly, you could go to home depot and get a few cans of silver that look close enough - chances are one of them will be almost perfect.

If you sanded the plastic with increasing grit number paper (ie less abbrasive each time - like polishing aluminum parts) you would get a pretty clean finish. Then it would be a matter of spraying some clear coat on it to fill in those microscopic scratches.
Then it would be like the mustang was just taken off. It would be labour intensive, but may just work. Just a thought.....

Well, for a pefect match you can go to any local auto body supply store with a center cap and they will mix the paint for you. Then hit any local auto body shop to spray them - shouldn't cost you much but my first suggestion was the cost effective route.

Those are nice volks but some people can't spend that much on wheels and tires.
The idea here is price. With mustang gt wheels costing $200 for a set with center caps and looking brand new and weigh at 17 pounds or just under, I don't think you can find a better deal.
