honestly man, if you are worried about getting a lemon... maybe its not for you
but saying that, if you buy it, it'll probably last another 150km...
2nd gen RX-7s have leaking injector problems, probably the cause of the funny starting procedures he told you
but if you get it checked out and have compression checked then you should be alright

I would recomend reading up on rotaries more before commiting to the car. Turbo rotaries can be somewhat tempermental if they aren't treated right. How much does the guy want? Where is the car located?

erin cake has a guide on his website for buying an RX-7. 7600 sounds way high for an 87 t2.

Pull the spark plugs. Take a 13/16 spark plug socket, and a socket wrench. With the spark plugs out, turn the key like you are starting it. Listen for a VERY noticeable "pfft-pfft-pfft" noise. It slightly resembles a train as it goes over tracks. If the "pfft" noise (the apex seal going over the empty spark plug hole) is very quiet or worse, is irregular, walk away. Bad compression. Make sure the boost stays at 5.5 psi (if stock) and make sure the car pulls well, also see if there is any hesitation at 3800 RPM. Check the turbine for any play. Look for oil in the turbo housing by sught, and make sure all feels right when you test drive it. Good luck and keep us posted!

Yeah! These things love to be revved! For the first week I owned mine, I never pushed it beyond 3k RPM, but then I learned how to drive a rotary! No need to back off, unless it gets up to redline for too long!

Should rev smoothly to 3k RPM. Then, after 30 seconds, it should drop to 750 RPM. Now if you are speaking about actually starting the car, sometimes they flood a little. Mine will kick over perfectly, sometimes, she will bitch at me for a second, then kick right over. If that is the only problem, then no worries! How did the spark plug thing work out? How did it sound?

if you start the car in a gear, then it will not go up to 3k RPMs
