thermowax thingy

is the thermowax thingy supposed to extend or retract when hot? i pulled my TB off over the weekend, and i thought i adjusted the cold start. i screwed the screw all the way in, thinking that it would idle at about 1100-1500 when cold and drop to 750 a lot sooner. but now it idles at 1600 all the time, cold and hot. i dont understand why it never drops its idle, if anyting the idle should be lower. i cant pull the tb off again till the weekend and when i do i plan to either eliminate the cold start completely or set it back to the way it was before

Check the TPS also. It can cause a high idle also.

The thermowax retracts as it gets hot. Just adjust your set screw as shown in the FSM, and you should be fine. I belive, in the '87 FSM, they actually list the tempratures that the two marks on the fast idle cam relate to.
