Is there a way to detonate a fi N/A 13B?

Just curious if there is a way to ping or worse detonate a fuel injected, naturally asperated, street ported 13B on 87 octane pump gas? Can you adjust the crank angle sensor all the way to one side or the other and go full throttle with 87? I did this on an older motor that I did not care much about. When it was torn down there was a side seal that was broken in half, but that was filled with carbon, I believe this is why. This motor also lead a VERY hard life in the hands of some others and became a rolling experiment for us. I checked out Paul Yaw's website and could only find references to carb stuff. How/where can I make some timming marks on the pulley? My friend's Gtech told us last night that with another guy in the car with me and a really really bad launch the car did 98.4 MPH in a 1/4 mile....thats a GTech number. Gotta have more!

you can get detonation in an n/a. Im not sure if thats what happened to your car, could have been the lack of care for it.

back in my young and stupid days I tried to tune my S-AFC with my narrowband A/F gauge.
After putting -20% I could clearly hear detonation but only after a few days of driving the car. I didn't notice until my friend asked me bout it.
It didnt do any damage but Im sure that it wasnt good for it.

Okay so does anyone have any timming recommendations? I have been running stock timming and am wondering if I can advance it for more power. I have read some other threads about people retarding timming on street ported motors but they are all refering to turbo charged stuff.

Yeah i've been wondering this too. I've heard that the N/As make more powert on 87 octane since that is what the timing is set for i was wondering if 93 octane and advanced timing would gain HP i know it works that way for some chips for trucks and what not

... you're not increasing the compression... why are you thinking of using higher octane...?

I've not tried tuning it like this, but generally from what I hear you're not going to get performance gains from advancing the timing a bunch.

IIRC even the guy speaking at SS7 said no matter what you do to an N/A short of adding a turbo, it's not going to have high enough compression to really care what octane level you use... and screwing with the timing isn't the same as the "trucks" you've heard about... if you fire too early on the leading you're not only getting bad compression, you're pushing the rotor face back... if you fire too late there is a chance of the 'cleanup' spark coming too late, in the next rotor face. (bad)

guys I need timming numbers. I don't care about octane. I just need to know how to time this car for maximum power. Just a recap, There are only two marks on the pullyfor timming. There is nothing in degrees. I am assuming that when you turn the crank angle sensor clockwise, it advances the timming. I don't mind playing with this motor, but I need someone whome I know I can trust who has done this before to tell me where the limits are. I will use 93 octane if I need, I just need info. If there is some solid timming info about N/A street ports, then it needs to be archived. If anyone knows a specific search term that will get some info please let me know. I can find nothing about N/A 6 port ignition timming, just TII stuff.

I made a thread asking about experiences with advance in degrees while runnign the stock ECU, and no one replied.
I don't think anyone KNOWS how much they have advanced their timing, they just move the CAS.
On stock N/A's, I advance 6 degrees using a digital advance timing light. They are simplistic to use, just as simplistic as a standard pick-up timing light.
You hook it up normally via the battery leads and a high tension lead pick-up, then you either push the buttons or turn a **** so that the dial/LCD gives you your desired advance, in degrees (IE: I would make the LCD read 6). Now you align the leading timing mark with the pointer as if you would normally... now you know your exact timing advance.

I'm going to forward you guys to Paul Yaw's article for he can do a waay better job of explaining advance retardation detonation and timing better then I can. http://www.yawpower.com/jultech.html
