Testement to the effectiveness of a cold air box
Well, I took out my cold air box last week since I move the rad back to put in the intercooler... It's fed by a functional hood scoop positioned on top of the box.
It's been pretty cool the last while, so I havn't noticed any difference at all, but today, WOW!
I remember initally being impressed at the effectiveness of the box when I first put it in- but ONLY during slow speed city driving, most notably, accellerating in 1st gear from a stop.
Well, today was almost 90, and humid... and my car felt like such a dog off the line... Once moving it was fine, but while sitting, underhood temps were probably 150F degrees at minumum... probably more. From a stop, 1st gear up to almost redline just sucked compared to before!
If anyone who lives in an area that regularly gets past 80 degrees, I am now 100% convinced that a fabricated cold air box is a terrific upgrade!
I'll be making another one if I can fit it with the IC pipes...

Nope, no turbo, I'm actuallyputting an intercooler AFTER the radiator.... I want to heat up the intake air because it makes the car warm up faster, and it keeps the throttle plates nice and soft.
It also makes your muffler bearings prime faster.

well i too am a firm believer i went from the hks mega flow to an air box which gets its air directly from the nose and you can really feel the difference in performance. especially on hot day while the hks would be sucking the superheated air from inside the hood you can tell that the cold air from the nose really does make a difference..

Oh my.
Hey, I have a bridge for sale if anyone's interested!!
I also forgot to mention, since ran all those A/C coils in the intake manifold, intake temps are so cold that the whole engine regularly freezes solid, and I have to unfreeze the entire block with a blowtorch for about an hour.
Pain in the butt when are on a date.
But the setup gave me a good 60 hp, for free.
PM me, and I'll sell you the plans for $80 dollars
I just crossdrilled my brakelines too- really prevents valve float!
