terrible mpg for stock tII

I have an 87 TII with no current mods, cause I just got a new engine installed this summer. (Broke college student, about to change) Anyways, but I get about 202 miles a tank. that somthing like 12 mpg. I've never had it this bad before. I have an exhaust leak, and either my trailing coil or the wiring to my tach isn't right. but Could this be my O2 sensor? I'm obviously running very rich. I started using premix 2 weeks ago and have noticed that my car run 100 times better while a noticeable gas gain... but it's still not right. Anything would help. I hate watching my gas gauge literally fall in front of my eyes...

mine

in my '89 Turbo II I only get about that if I am driving in the city.

My city driving usually gets me around 13-16 MPG
My Fun driving gets me about 7-10 MPG
Highway is nice @ 25 MPG

but my last tank gave me 12.4 MPG

welcome to the world of the TII, I drop about a quarter tank every 40-50 or so miles. You gotta pay to play.

My car used to get very good gas milage... For example I could drive from central PA to Ocean City, MD on two tanks of gas and still have a little less than a half tank left. And it's been that way. But just recently it's gotten real bad...

If your fuel economy has been less since the new engine, maybe the 'new' engine is just a rebuild and the compression will to build as the apex seals seat properly? I have heard that rebuilds need some time to build up compression.

i used to get around 10/13mpg. i increased it a little bit with a cheap bosch O.E. o2 sensor. pick one up at your local autozone or other chain store new, that should help a little. also maybe fuel injector cleaner might help, although i've heard that some haven't experienced any gains from the cleaner.

I get 17mpg in my 88 TII with intake/exhaust and heavy foot driving with a mix of city/highway.

In my own personal opinion, 12 is to low unless you've upgraded your fuel and injectors.

By the way, how are you calculating your mpg? Make sure your using the s4 tank size vs s5.

Make sure you do it this way.

Fill tank -- Note Mileage ( or trip odometer) --- drive a lot till about 1/4 tank err whatever --- fill tank again -- divide mileage gone by the number of gallons it took to fill tank 2nd time.

If you really are getting that crappy of mileage, make sure your o2 sensor is actually plugged in or farily new. Get new plugs... Make sure you have good electical charge in battery and the alternator is putting out good power.
