FL Tein S.Techs and KYB AGX's *DO* work! - Pics inside!

So, I've almost completely replaced the major suspension components to include AGX's up front with the Tein S.Techs that people some people were having problems with...

I too ran into a bunch of problems on Saturday morning after replacing. Original config:

Shock struts, stock springs, original ball joints/tie rod ends. Aftermarket 17" Konigs, unknown offset. 225/45/17's all around. Completely jacked up suspension/ride overall. Didnt even feel like an RX7 (this is my 5th)

Step 1: Replaced front/rear struts/front ball joints... AGX's up front, Monroe sensa tracs in the rear. No problems here, and barely a noticable improvement in ride quality. Still pulled to one side. Driver side ball joint had zero resistance left in it... passenger side was almost the same.

1000 miles later, step 2: Replaced rear tires, same size. Drives straight, but steering still loose.

I ordered S.Techs and new tie rod ends (10/30), received on 11/3/10.

Step 3 (Friday night - 11/5): replaced driver front tie rod end, (much beefier than stock) and spring... Oh ****... the tire is now rubbing the spring - after then searching the forum, I now see how common this is... hence this thread.

Step 4 (late Friday night): ran to Advance - two wheel spacers in stock - 5/16"!!

Step 5 (11/6): Placed spacer on the driver front wheel and bolted it back up... success!! No more rubbing!

Step 6 (11/6): Replaced the rest of the springs/passenger side tie rod end with no problems.

Now, I said that the tie rods were maybe an 1/8 inch longer, and much bulkier than the factory originals... and heres the part where it gets fun.

Step 7 (2PM): Test drive... on the way to get an alignment. I got the expected rubbing on the fender lip... no biggie, till I turned into the Tire Kingdom place to get it aligned... and the tire snagged the lip, and pulled it WAAAY out. Aww ****.

Step 8: the real solution... new front tires. I kinda needed them anyway, the originals were jacked from the crappy alignment... and however many miles the previous guy put on it like that. The new tires are 205/40/17s BTW.

On the drive home... I've never been happier... smooth as glass!!! No rubbing, but I'm picking up more crap in my bumper's grill though! Its the best looking street sweeper in all of Jacksonville! The stance looks AMAZING! I do have to pull sideways into my driveway though!

So this was a bad title... It should have said something about Tein springs NOT rubbing on a turbo'ed FC...

Your car is nice. I love that color. Is that a cigarette butt in the grille area? Were you saying you only put a spacer on the driver front too, not on the pass. front? If so that doesn't sound good.

Spacers on both sides! Actually, in the rear too... but that wasn't my doing, and they're WAAAY wider in the back. If I had to guess, probably close to 3/4 inch, but they arent the pot metal ones like in the front. Looks like CNC'ed aluminum... much better made.

I also cant take credit for the body work, but the car as a whole is a hundred times more enjoyable since I picked it up back in May.

i ran the same combo before i went to the HKS coilovers, i simply took a hammer to the strut perches and made a new spring lock so the the spring sat as far away from the tire as possible which cured the rubbing issue.

whats wrong with mixing Tein S.Techs and KYB AGX's? I was gonna do the same set up but how much of a drop is it with the Tein S.Techs? I'm not looking to lower my 7 or get coilovers. I was looking for a 1 inch drop maybe but still have a sorta stock height but with adjustable shocks.

sorry if i may be thread jacking but better to get a answer now then make another thread about the same topic

No thread jack!

After I found that my tires were rubbing REALLLLY hard against the spring, I came inside to search the forum... and when I did, I found MANY case of people experiencing the same issue. Lots of replys stated that

If you dont want to noticably lower the car, go with the Racing Beat springs... they're actually reasonably priced. Only 40 more than the Teins that I got (off of eBay). No they're not knock offs... I let the seller know that their shipping address was less than an hour from my parents house, and that I'd be visiting if necessary when I roll home on leave tomorrow

Using Tein's guidelines for counterfeits... they're legit. They were 161 shipped BTW.

1) you cant use S.Techs with a turbo motor - some said this per Teins website, but I didnt see anything on there when I looked.
2) get different springs
3) get smaller tires/spacers
4) get different rims

I just wanted to tell about the combo that worked for me... it just sucks that I dont know the wheel offset. 205/40/17 and 5/16" spacers work perfectly (for me - I know this is an opinion).
I think I just happened to run across more threads than not that happened to use the AGX/Tein setup. Probably coincidence... as the AGX's are stocker replacements + the adjustability.

I wish I measured prior to... but the factory springs probably weren't worth measuring... as they were 150K old, and would have significant sag, plus the turbo motor that I have in there on NA springs.
