Question tein basic coilovers

anyone here still using them? i have a set and am wondering about clearance problems. im running stock 16 wheels and the spring is rubbign againt the rim on both sides, i had to get longer studs and a 7mm spacer. am wondering if its only my particular set or common among the older basic sets.

how much camber are you running? And is it really the wheel that is rubbing or the tire? I have never has any issues with them aside from if I ran full camber.
If you have any pics that might help also as the springs may have been changed by the previous owner if you bought them used.

So are you running full camber? If so I would take some camber out and it should fix the issue. 205's rubbing WOW something seems odd for sure.

no i have the camber on positive right on the zero, and it was rubbing right on rim edge. if i raised it it would rub again the tire. and its with the spring. i just put on 225/50r16 tires and it BARELY clears with a 7mm spacer.

circuit theoryseems to think the springs are backwards (front goes on rear, rears go on front)

you just need an impact gun and remove the top mounts. You should lower the perches as far as they need to go in order to free up any tensionin the spring but other than that all yo do is whip off that top bolt and swap the springs.

If you look at the pics in your photobucket you can see that the front suspension is sitting higher than the rear.

If it helps I will tell you for sure your springs need to be swapped from front to back.

Good luck!

If you've installed it like its pictured with the front springs all the way lowered, that's probably a big part of the reason it rubs. You'd be better off raising it up a bit, raising the car at the same time, or getting shorter springs. The springs are probably marked, so if you read them, you'll be able to tell which ones are which before taking it all apart and figuring out that it may be the right way around in the first place.

if you got a impact gun you can just hit the top nut..

did you buy them used? i suppose you did.

The springs should be right unless someone mickeymoused em.. the spring lengths in the pictures does look a lil funky. Front spring rate should be stiffer than the rears.

o so u dont need to compress anything when removing the springs? the fronts and rears look kinda the same to me, but im new to this coilover thing so im not sure.

y would it matter which way its installed?(not being funny im just curious since i didnt know it would matter) i think i did install it lowered that way cause i could adjust them off the car.

try to loosen the two bolts that hold the bottom of the shock to the spindle, pull it out like your trying to get positive camber (top of the wheel away from the car) and hold it there while you tighten the bolts down. that should solve your problem. then you can adjust camber from the top camber plate

Ya I have tried that already, and still did it. Thinking at one time maybe someone upgraded the front springs?

THE SPRINGS ARE REVERSED! hahaha I dont know why you are avoiding simply swapping the front to back and back to front but you dont seem to want to do it for some reason. Even in the photobucket pics the front of you car is higher than the rear and the shocks are almost maxed out to the bottom.

Whomever sold you the coilovers removed the springs to clean everything up a bit and when he put them back together he did not know what was front adn what was rear. Simple mistake and simple fix. I will be shocked if I am wrong on this one.
