Lots of technical info here - including explanation of the decrease in HP from the nology wires.

So new spark plug wires regularly help prevent that as do higher performance conductor spark plug wires.
But you will not gain any additional HP without increasing either the gap, or duration of the spark and with the latter only being important in cases of increased fuel or advanced timing to again avoid blow out of the spark.
But you might gain back lost HP that poor condition spark was robbing from you.

yes, i realize all the steps you pointed out, im not retarded.
but andres car is not suffering from misfires, or the spark blowing out. this is what i am saying. wouldnt we be able to tell if somethign was horribly wrong with his ignition?
if it wasnt firing there would be a lack of power, like what happened to MY CAR when one of more pistons were NOT firing due to old/ broken wires and/or plugs.
once I changed them for new ones my car was BACK to normal.
I could TELL when there was something wrong with my ignition.
well my argument is still somewhat intact. I know there are intricacies to the whole ignition system, but in simple theory, if its sparking, and sparkign correctly, it is igniting the gas. this is what i am saying.
and i have being using the basis that pretty sparks dont help much at all, such as the 4 pronged spark plugs and all these aftermarket ignition mods that ricers buy. that is what I am refering to....
like in a protege argument over a stronger spark we were arguing this:

Until you start trying to majorly boost your engine, or have some SERIOUS compression ratio brewing in that badboy, you have NOTHING to worry about, or gain from increased spark.

Super Newbie
When the resistance of the wires is higher then spec, (and dre's ohmed out kinda high) they ARE NOT going to be firing as well as they should.
But hey, your opinion is much more accurate than a multimeter, right?

Former Moderator. RIP Icemark.
See both Dre and Protege are partially correct.
That better wires will not increase HP, other than returning it to stock condition, unless other mods are made.
But the idea of a spark is a spark is incorrect. A poor spark will loose HP and engine efficency no matter what.
The fancy wires are generally a waste of money, but still new wires are needed if there is a poor spark

At 6000rpm, a 13B fires it plugs 200 times every second. Do you think you're going to feel if one or two of those sparks don't happen? When you actually feel a miss, that's quite a few sparks not occuring in a row, not just one.
When replacing your worn out old plug wires, or getting better quality ones, it's those odd random missing sparks you're trying to get back. Depending on the condition of the old ones it's quite feasible the power and ecomomy could improve marginally.
BTW, everyone should have a read of all the info on Magnecor's website.

i never said any old sparkw ill do >:O
i know that fi teh spark is so weak it is barely firing consistently that its BAD.
what i am arguing that if the spark is ABOVE "any old spark" and at teh normal range, that its going to do the job correctly.
jeez.

Did anybody mention that a failing set of plug wires may let the plugs fire fine until the RPM's get so high then maybe break down a bit and a slight missfire may seem like a hesitation and THATS WHY YOU WANT TO HAVE GOOD WIRES. (I wasn't really screeming). Or in other words "What NZConvertable said."

so if u buy "better spark plugs" they wont be better untill you get a MSD box? the Msd box will be able to use full advantage of the new plug wires.. something like that?
