![Question](https://www.rx7club.com/images/icons/icon5.gif)
I'm planning to do the TB mod to my car soonish and I was wondering about how much horsepower I could expect to see from it. I've got a HKS intake already if that matters. I mostly just want to know if I will actually notice a difference afterwards or not.

I did not see much when I did mine. Throttle response is a bit quicker (some don't like this BTW). A car with a turbo will see a bigger difference than an NA.
Also, be sure to know what you mean. I think of three separate things.
1) Removing the Secondary Throttle Plates.
2) Porting the TB.
3) Removing the Cold Start Thermo Wax assembly.
I did all three. Then I went back and put the cold start stuff back in. Do number 2 if you are bored. But in reality you will not tell a difference in an NA. maybe a Turbo and maybe if you dynoed before and after.
The porting can take awhile to do it nice. removing the other two is pretty straight forward as you might have read in the various writeups.

I did all three like pontious mentioned. There was just a big thread about this a few days ago search and you'll find it. Although most people in that thread agreed that it didn't do much if anything on an NA but maybe a little bit on a turbo. However i did it and i could feel a slight difference I even have a few friends try it and we all felt it just like a little more up high in the low gears nuthing to get really excited about and no seat of the pants type thing but for the cost which is almost nothing it was well worth it for me

I would say that jives with what I saw when I did all three. Though, liek I said putting the theromwax back in was a must, as I hated to wait for the car to warm up with my foot on the gas. even here in NC I have to wait a minute or so before I got going in the morning.
Remove the throttle plates if you want fast response, and *some* better flow. Port the TB if you have the time and really want to do whatever you can to add better flow, even if it might not make a difference

do you guys have porting mods and exhaust mods on your cars? i would expect that the gains are more substantial when the engine has the proper breathing room. i plan on doing the mod after i install my exhaust, port the wastegate and intake manifolds. hopefully the gains will be worthwhile at that point.

I have just the intake, cai and a free flowing exhaust. You have a turbo right? So I would expect it would make more of a difference for you. (from all that I have read.)

yup, i have a 3" turboback. elongated Racing Beat porting, CAI, TID, blah blah but when i pull the motor back out it is getting wastegate porting and LIM/UIM porting then a little later i will do the the TB mod, if not at the same time. i just like to do everything in stages to see how each affects the running conditions.

You get very little extra power from doing the TB mod, because you're only removing a very small restriction. On turbos it will improve throttle response because the damped double throttle system is removed, but on NA's the throttles aren't damped (they're held fully open once the engine's warm) so there's no change.

Yeah Ii wasn't wanting to port my Tb because of the thread refered to by TotalImmortal. I'm just planning on removing the thermowax assembly and the throttle plates. My car is an N/A to those who are curious. I live in Northern California (you could prolly guess from my name) so would it be more of a PITA than its worth to take out the thermowax because of the cold idle issues? It doesn't get much below 40 in the mornings here. Its been like 38 degrees the past few mornings and thats cold for us. Is that cold enough to justify leaving the thermowax on?
