T2 caught fire need advice
My friend is selling a 87 T2 that caught fire. I can pretty much get it for next to nothing. What I need to know is how big of a deal is it to rebuild a car that caught fire under the hood? I have an 86 rx7 and I work at an import mechanic shop so I can do everthing myself. My question is is it worth buying to put another motor in it? Or is it just junk? The body is perfect as well as the interior.
Thanks in advance,
ed

Is the engine still good short of the fire? If so it's worth it, just need a new engine harness/pulsation dampner/fuel lines/injectors/and if it burnt anything else in the process, replace that as well. It shouldn't be too much to fix if the engine isn't toast. (assuming the PD is the cause of the fire)

eh...Id stay away from it unless you knew a fair deal about cars and all. Im sure things would continually pop up that you wouldnt have expected. Just save up a little longer and find a car that in good condition already. Itll save you less in the long run

So do you guys think it's worth buying? I can get it for probably $200 bucks and the car is clean besides the fire. Is it worth it or not? I want a project car, I work at an auto shop, so labor is not an issue. I''m just wondering if it would be cheaper to find one with a blown motor or buy this and fix it?. I'm talking cheaper in parts because I can do all the labor for free. I also get factory parts at discount through my work. So buy or don't buy?
Thanks, Ed

So usaully when a Rx7 catches fire under the hood it's not damaged internally? So mostly I have to buy stuff like injectors, wiring, hoses, sensors stuff like that? What about accesories like alternator, starter, AC all that stuff?

Come on guys help me out. I went to look at it today, but I thought I'd throw it on the forum first before I bought it. I know there are thousands of very knowledgable people who can give me some advice.
To buy or not to buy that is the question.

You need to calm down a little, you are getting antsy after only 30 minutes, sheesh. A typical engine fire on an RX7 is caused by the pulsation dampner, which leaks gas onto the engine, which ignites when it gets hot enough, thus burning the fuel lines/injectors/fuel rail/wiring/etc that's under there. You can't tell how bad it is or what you need to replace until you take the upper intake off, but it won't cost much!

Buy it. Just pull the intercooler and upper intake manifold off and replace the injectors, pd, possibly the fpr, fuel hoses.Tps. Splice in new wiring to replace the burnt. Possibly have to replace the throttle body if severely burnt. Common sense stuff. The engine should still be good, IF it was worth a darn in the first place.

I bought my car the same way. I did not go about fixing it back to stock but the thought did cross my mind. It is not that bad to fix it. Just like everyone said replace everything that is burnt.
It is easy. No big deal if you know what you are doing with cars...

Here's what I had to do to fix my son's fire damaged TII. The parts car I had sure helped to keep the cost down.

Just wondering if various NA parts work on the TII because there are lots of NA's in the junk yard around here. For example; oil injectors, lines, vacuum "Spider" setup, throttle cable, fuel injector rails, hoses, and pulsation dampener. I could go pull all that stuff at the junk yard myself for cheap if it interchanges.

If you can get it for $200 thats good. I wouldn't pay over say $1000 definitely but it really depends on the condition. I would have to see it myself but prolly no more than $500.

LoL if you buy it and decide you don't want it I might be interested.
The body on my TII is so bad its almost worth it to me to swap to anouther chassis.

Need help fast.
I talked to the guy today and someone else offered him 400, but he said he would give it to me for the same. Should I buy or not?
I don't know if the motor is good, but I want to port and rebuild it anyway. Is 400 good even if the motor needs a rebuild?
Thanks, Ed
