Heres some things to think about:
That engine probably costs 200$ to ship.. They ship it to you and its no good.. You spend another $200 to ship it back.. So for $1200 bucks, plus the labor costs, you could have a blown engine sent to you.. inspected.. then have to send it back.. Realistically putting you out at least $400-600 beyond the 1200. So for 1600-1800 that you may spend on that engine, you could spend 1600-1800 on an engine from J2LA and get the engine from someone who knows rotary engines.
Who's the importer?. There is a long list of bad JDM importers going here that have bad reputations with rotaries. You may also want to look for local importers in the yellow pages. Save yourself some shipping and go pick it up. That way you can look at it yourself.
Also running the N/A drivetrain is fine. Aaron Cake has been running an N/A drivetrain on his TII and its holding up fine. Although it is recommended that you go with the TII when you can.

I don't undertand, if i get the motor with a startup warranty and before i even install it have it tested i can send it back if its no good, wheres the problem? yeah i'll waste a little money on shipping, but im a gambler, if its a good motor im getting a hell of a deal
Edit: and 1200 bucks isn't a hell of a deal. BTW

Im sorry, not to be arrogant at all, but if you had a jdm 13bt with an afermarket turbo with good compression for 1200, compared to a stock 13bt for 2000, is that not a great deal?

You will still have to return it, which will be at cost to you.. And shipping these engines isn't cheap.. I have helped a few people with JDM swaps.. And believe me trying to gamble now will cost you much more later than the few hundred you are trying to save..

I have had no issues either beating an na drivetrain, i am only at 6lbs tho .
do what you want, its your time and money. I do understand wanting to be cheap. I am cheap as hell, not with engines or turbos though. A good engine decision will save you TONS in the future.

No.. Namely because you have a 20% chance of that engine showing up with no problems off the shipping pallet.. And some of the other members of this forum wouldn't give that probability 10%. Problems can range from stuck apex seals to leaky gaskets, or just a whole blown motor.. I'm not telling you what to do with your money.. But I am telling you from experience that skimping now will screw you later..

Aaron Cake has been running an N/A drivetrain on his TII and it was holding up fine for a while at 380whp. He then began to push even more, and after tons of street driving, and 1/4 mile passes he is now changing. 380WHP.
superfixed.
