Switching Solenoid Valve

Switching Solenoid Valve
I search but i need more info..most of the information i found is for turbo only and mine is an S4 Na. I was cleaning my vac line and decided to test the valve. while i was doing it i broke a nipple on the switching solenoid valvle the one with the gray plug. so i was wondering can i take it off or do i have to get a replacement for it. Im going to get another one from the junk yard but i have to wait till this weekend to get to the junkyard. What can i do if i dont have to have that valve. will it have any effects on the car running condition..thanks

The switching solenoid valve is controlled by the computer to send air pump air either to the exhaust port or the split-air pipe that runs to the cat. It will only affect emissions. NOTE that you want to cap the vacuum line coming from the vacuum source (throttle body or Intake manifold) so that you don't have a vacuum leak.

I would not bypass it for now while you get a new solenoid valve. If you do, everytime the computer activates the relief solenoid valve (thereby closing the passage of air to the relief silencer hose) the air will go to the cat and never to the exhaust port. You could overheat the cat (unless you don't have one).
One of the best links to the FSM, Training Manual (!), and Parts Fiche is just below:

Take care.

The solenoid just re-routes the air from the air pump to the exhaust port or cat. It won't affect start up. BTW, as per the FSM, with the solenoid off (0 Volts) air goes from one hose to the other, so unplugging it will cause a vacuum leak if you don't cap the hose going to the air pump.

Take your EGR solenoid and put it in place of the Switching Solenoid. Put the Switching solenoid elec plug on it.
Put a small bolt/screw in the line on the EGR that supplys vacuum. Done. Til you get a new used solenoid out of the wreckyard for, what? two to five bucks?
The EGR valve is of little use in the real world. There will be no more bad gasses being emmited than before it was removed.
I don't see a Switching solenoid effecting starting in any way, shape or form. Got me why it seems to be doing so.
