Sweet looking rims cheap
#26
I use 17" mustang gt wheels, and 15" bbs toyota camry wheels. Nobody really notices. Once I tell them, they're surprised at how nice the mustang wheels look (no center cap w/ pony). The camry wheels look funny, because they're small with low-profile azenis on them. I can't even get the jack under the car with those wheels on (no pics of them on though).

Yeah I know what you mean. I have seen a few guys run 17x9 17lbs each mustang rims all around for SCCA racing because they were cheap and very easy to get. If I had posted this pic of the wheels on my car without telling anyone they were Cobra R wheels like 20 people would have been like "sweet"....thats just how this forum is sometimes. So people need a sticker on their rims that says volk.

The presmise of the post was for CHEAP, COOL WHEELS...
Yeah.. the wheels are 400 bucks..... BUT THEY WON"T FIT!!!!!!!!!
They are 18X9 + 24MM.... Yes.. You can MAKE them fit with Overfenders (possibly coilovers up front).. so now you've just added close to 500 bucks in fenders, and AT LEAST 500 bucks for a paint job..
Hmmmmmm 1400 bucks..... Now ya still gotta buy tires theres about 600 bucks///
2000 bux?? Still think thats cheap????????

I have my vert wheels painted/polished just like those ones on the red car, but I have all my center caps and their on a black car. Takumiproject.com has very nice used name brand rims at very reasonable prices. The brand new $250/set rims are 17x7.5, they are adr rims which is know to be a cheap brand along with vrd. They are a very nice price for what you get, but for some 17x10 you will end up spending a nice chunk of change as you know. Get mustang rims if you want, it is your car

They're Mustang rims and aside from that, they're ugly. But rims are all about your personality, so if you like 'em, get 'em.
Check out some KONiG Monsoons, they look nice and they're usually pretty cheap. (Though I think KONiG stopped making them, so the price may have gone up...)

I got mine for $100 w/o centercaps and the tires were rotted, but I painted the center a nice glossy black and put some ok tires on and it turned out nice and clean:
Now I just need to scrounge the junkers for some centercaps that fit (I'm thinking of trying some older BMW and Audi centercaps.)
18's just look crappy on 99% of FCs.

I need to upload my rims. They're heavy, but I love em.

Those are still obviously mustang rims, with or without the center cap. And no they don't look exactly live the 5 zigens above. There are many differences, the small "lip" around the spokes, the 5zigen wheels have a flat spoke where as the mustang wheels are curved, the center lug area on the 5zigens are flat and the mustangs are not, must I go on?
My personal opinion (which my wife is quick to reminded me that not every agrees with me) is that putting any wheels off of an american made car on an import is about as dumb as dropping a v-8 in an rx-7 or datsun. It gets the job done but it just isn't right!
And just because they "are from a mustang" is a good enough reason!!!

I think the spokes would go quite well actually, they would look better on an FD thiugh. I never took into account the weight, size, offset, etc. My car will never wear an 18" wheel or any wheel that weighs more than a stocker.

These are A-Spec wheels sold at America's Tire Co/Discount Tire Direct as MB Motorsports Weapon. I only paid like $114 for the 17x8s and $117 for the 17x9s, but they have gone up to $132/133/ea. The car is wearing 235/55R17 and 255/40R17 tires on those wheels.

But then I thought think the early FD wheels look too thin on the FC as well. Just not enough meat in the spokes.
And I agree with the weight thing. I shopped for months and months to find a decent 17 wheel that was light. As I was I got some that were 17lbs each, which (although heavier than my stock BBS wheels) is a reasonable compromise again IMO.

Get over it...
In reference to the rims, it doesn't matter if they come off a mustang. Rims are rims, and they all serve the same purpose. They're 5 spoke, and nothing more... the only thing that makes them mustang is the center caps. If you want them on your 7, go right ahead and get a pic just to show all the haters that they look alright.
As for bashing the v8 in a 7, you're obviously too closed-minded to even consider the benefits. Cars are all the same, taking parts from one to make your car better isn't some form of poser sht. Think of things from a performance/engineering standpoint and not brand.

Sorry guys I never intended this to turn into a v8 vs rx7 debate I was just pointing out a cheaper solution for the few on this forum who are getting more rwhp than a 7.5/8 rear wheel can handle. With so many people going to wider fenders these days we need a rim that will fill the spaces and allow for a 275-300+ series tire.

...94% correct.
I think that the spokes are right...they're pretty thin. Wide spokes don't look all that goon, in my opinion, because they don't match the lines of the car, as Mark pointed out. What I find appealing about thin, 5-spoke rims is that it shows off the suspension and brakes. If you don't have that then it'd be better to have some BBS or something...but sometimes you just have to consider the wear on your wallet bearings...
