Suspension Gurus: need some help with my setup, far too stiff
Hey guys,
I'm really lacking in suspension knowledge and need some help.
Current Setup:
Right now I have a set of JIC adjustable coilovers. I'm not sure what springs are currently being used, and I haven't been able to find out what model of coilover they are, they are silver with red writing, they came on an S5 I had and I swapped them over onto my current S4.
I also have a full master set polyurethane bushings I'm currently installing with some T2 sway bars, and a set of racing beat end links I'll be getting. None of this is currently on the car though this is in the works... Just some extra future reference material.
The problem:
This setup is far to stiff. Driving down a bumpy street feels like a 4 on the richter scale.
So if I wanted to soften it up a bit, is it a matter of adjusting the coilover setup, or do I need to obtain a different set of springs?
This car would be used primarily for street, with some road course/solo stuff in the future.

Try softening the shocks if that's possible. There'll be a **** on one end of the shock. Otherwise go for softer springs, if you can get a part number or something off the coilover JIC can probably tell you the model and stock rates.

They sound like JIC Magic SF-1 coilovers.
In which case you're looking at a 7kg Front / 5kg Rear spring rate and non-adjustable dampeners. After trying to drive on local streets and through the city with them around here, I sold mine.
I'm looking for a set of RSR race springs to go with KYB AGX adjustable shocks right now , I've tried that setup on another FC and was very happy with it.

Yeah, even the ground controls I am running are stiff as hell. Plus I've got an RB sway bar up front (******* thing is a fence post lol)
But I just deal with it....I'll be due for a spinal de-compression this spring if not sooner.
Now, Im not that familiar with the JIC's but I would imagine you could find another set of springs to fit the coilover configuration. However most springs made to fit a coilover aren't built with a cushy ride in mind so you might just be pissing into the wind there.
I'd say you're on the right track considering a shock/spring combo. And keep in mind that you can still have a car that handles very well with just good shocks/springs.

Yeah, I'm doing some research on the KYB AGX adjustable shocks and then trying to find a suitable spring for them and my needs... I 'm still learning the in's and out's of this car, so I won't be heavy duty into the track anytime soon...
Maybe someone in the area might want to do a trade....
