what kind of springs, bars, links, bushings, bracing etc etc etc. TOO many variables. Really searching is the best thing to do and before you take someones advice to seriously ask yourself how many different suspensions have they been through and how much do they really know about setting stuff up. Track junkies are the one to pay attention to here.

Hey Rebel: Welcome to the family. Like any family, there are some black sheep. You'll pick them out quickly. Be ready for flames that give more heat than light in here. These guys should commend you for asking about your suspension instead of what to do about your wimpy engine. Suspension is the way to start. To get some background on the wonderful car you just purchased, read everything by Aaroncake. Search the name and check out his site. He provides a lot of reliable information.
The only other thing I can say is: think it out, save your money and do it right the first time.
Enjoy the 7.

Welcome to the forum. Sorry about the cranky members. We sometimes forget that it takes awhile to get accustomed to our new surroundings.
As others have stated, this is a well covered subject.
There are many resources on this club and you will learn how to find and use them.
Here are some of the beneficial links to help you.
Sticky: How to Use the Forum: A Tutorial Series
Announcement: ALL MEMBERS NEW AND OLD: Must Read Before Posting in the 2nd Gen RX-7 section; Rules and Guidelines
: Frequently Asked Questions on the 2nd Generation RX-7 - FAQ for FC
You will find these links at the very top of the page in each forum that you view.
They are there to assist you.
On the main page you will see the listed forums and the contents of each one. It will take a while to get used to.
As far as searching, you will find it in the tutorial link.
I recommend that you keep the phrases down to a minimum.
Example;
Search this Forum vbmenu_register("forumsearch");
Try using separate phrases such as "Suspension", or KYB, or maybe suspension upgrade. Lok for the threads with the most replies. There will be many of the smaller threads because it has been asked so many times. :-)
If you find a good thread yet you have a question that may not have been covered then the best thing to do is reply or bump up that thread with your question. That way we can add information to it to have a more complete thread.
For all viewing. All posts have been removed that were unacceptable responses.

I thought they were being rather nice actually One thing to keep in mind, any kind of quality coil-over setup will cost. From what I've seen, a lot of people are happy w/ Tokico struts/shocks and stock TII springs.

haha, I didn't see any members misbehaving... But honestly searching will be the best bet for you. There was a thread not too long ago about this. As for your specific setup and the fact you let your age slip, I'm going to gander a guess and say that a majority of the coilover packages are a little out of reach (Tein Flex, Superdrift, etc). Do some research on here and look to see if you can find the dynographs for the different struts you'd want. Anyhow. Just my two cents.

I'll say it again, hopefully it won't get deleted for a THIRD time
SEARCH
Search again, read, learn understand that most of us have been there. By the way, the $5-600 I spent when I was in your shoes 13 years ago was made to look like a waste of money when I spent $140 ish on bushings.
When it comes to suspensiom it's almost always a matter of opionion and cost so read as many good opinions as possible.
What kind of SCCA racing?

What other suspensions have you run?
What other modified cars have you driven in?
Do you use them competitively?
Have you properly aligned them?
Have you cornerbalanced them with 1/2 tank fuel and your weight in the drivers seat?
Are you running full poly bushings?
Do you have upgraded sway bars?
do you have adjustable end links?
Are they set up properly?
What size/type tires are you running?
What have you done to strengthen the chassis?
Have you ever seen a dyno plot?
How are you making this comparision?
And the list goes on.

People, people - SCCA "racing" does include Auto-X, which is what I'm assuming he meant here. And I think he's just looking for a reasonable recommendation on replacement struts/shocks.
With that said, since your 17 and probably budget limited, I would recommend heading over to ebay and picking up some new KYB-AGX's for cheap. They're reasonable units, slightly adjustable, and cheap. Did I mention they were cheap?
Save your money because once you get the car up in the air to replace the units that are on there, you should take a real good look around your suspension and see what else is worn out and need replacing (nothing fancy here, just stock or equivolent replacements). If the struts are blown out, then other bits and pieces (like bushings) will probably need to be looked at.
If you want to go out and do some cone-dodging, you need to focus on getting the suspension back up to snuff, the rest of the car reliable, and spend the remainder of your money on tires and gas.
Have fun,

Simplest solution is new KYB's. Shocks always need to be replaced periodically. Either that or another shock with similar stiffness, or an adjustable shock.
Suspension is 99% user preference. A stiffer suspension will improve grip, a softer suspension won't break your back. Decide how much performance and how much ride quality you want. Besides that make sure your springs, shocks and sway bars match. If you put soft shocks on stiff springs, you'll have a bouncy ride. If you put stiff shocks on soft springs, besides being both uncomfortable and (relatively) low grip, the shocks won't last very long.
www.mazdatrix.com has a list of spring rates for various springs (higher = stiffer). TII springs are a little stiffer than NA springs. Racing Beat springs are a little bit stiffer than TII springs, and softer than most other aftermarket springs. Tokico shocks are likewise relatively soft. Adjustable shocks are, well, adjustable, so you can make them whatever you want. Coilovers tend to be super stiff, but some people don't mind the ride quality on certain coilovers even for street use. Progressive springs supposedly offer the best of both worlds, but most people prefer linear (regular) b/c that's not 100% true and linear gives a more linear response.
Besides that there's suspension bushings and tower braces. You should replace any old worn out suspension bushings with either OEM (soft) or polyurethane (hard). But even cars with stiff suspension come with soft bushings from the factory, so that should tell you something. FD owners have stiff suspensions from the factory. They often can't stand the polyurethane and go back to OEM. OTOH, polyurethane is cheaper and longer lasting than OEM, it's still less harsh than worn out bushings, and it will improve road feel. Tower braces stiffen the chasis to provide a small improvement in handling without sacrificing ride comfort.

Yup - not to mention the few thousand it costs just to get licenesed.
Compared to what?
What other suspensions have you run?
What other modified cars have you driven in?
Do you use them competitively?
Have you properly aligned them?
Have you cornerbalanced them with 1/2 tank fuel and your weight in the drivers seat?
Are you running full poly bushings?
Do you have upgraded sway bars?
do you have adjustable end links?
Are they set up properly?
What size/type tires are you running?
What have you done to strengthen the chassis?
Have you ever seen a dyno plot?
How are you making this comparision?
And the list goes on.

ive been in a few modded evo's one with buddy club coilovers and a 32gtr with the apexi n1's. yes they are properly aligned, yes to the bushings and swaybars 40mm whiteline items, no to the end links. tyres 235s sumitomo streets on 18in hr racing lightweight rims, but with a set of yokohama's on the way.running mazdaspeed rear strut tower brace and a spats tower brace up front, also have the tein camber plates front and rear aswell.yes to the dyno question, no my car hasnt been dynoed since i've had it. i'm making this comp based on what i've driven and the reviews around, btw i wasnt saing my setup was the best goin round just that its good for the street if a little stiff, but what a little back pain when youve got tramil.lol

the most profound thought i ever had on this subject came yesterday actually after replacing my toasted FB's suspension with some gr2 and racing beat springs. i have an FC with stance coilovers on it as well and this thought occurred to me
"i love my FC more, i prefer to drive it an have more fun, but if im takin a chick out or need to pick up my mom, ill take the FB"
my stance coils are probably rougher for daily driving then your average person wants to tolerate, and i cant see any but the marryin type of chick enjoying the ride.. whereas the kybs an RB springs is still a nice tight feeling car but not nearly as jarring and uncomfortable.
the moral of this story, consider what you are gonna use the car for more then anything an purchase accordingly
