Sunroof Woes! 87 Gxl! Searched!

hey guys, just got a question about my sunroof I hope you guys can answer. I searched for it but I only found info on people selling em, etc.

Alright, My sunroof. When I push the switch to activate the sunroof, I can hear the motor engaging, however the sunroof doesnt move up more than about an inch, then it stops.

When I try to bring the roof back into its home position, I hear a grinding noise like its trying to move but its off the track.

Anyone have any idea on how to fix this? I want my roof to work =/

i dont think you searched long enough. clean the tracks and apply lithium lube and try again. if that doesnt work you need to replace teh tracks iirc.

I searched for about 3-5 pages, only found information about peopple parting out cars, and a fiberglass sunroof.

But thanks for the tip, I'll try that tomorrow.

Use the advanced search option so that you can search only in this section. Makes life much easier.

Change your personal settings to show all posts instead those of only recent dates... that way you get all of them instead of relatively new posts.

your coiled cables that drive the sunroof might be snapped. There are two that are pulled in different directions when the motor turns. If one is broke it might come up a little but it will be **** eyed. If that's the case don't try to force it because the sunroof lid gets locked down when the cables are pushed all the way in. You might have to take the whole sunroof assembly out of the car. Thats what I had to do and found out one of the cables were broke. Still trying how to fix it without buying a whole new sunroof drive assembly.
