Sunroof or No Sunroof?
#29
Personally, it's not about having lots of air freely available. A couple reasons I like having it is because I can open it and have the car flooded with more light than I had before. I love natural lighting. You can also get a bigger view outside your car, which is nice for a number of things. Haha, I could probably see close traffic lights better through the sunroof than through the windshield...

love my sunroof. it didn't work when i first got my car, but messing around with it a bit got it to fully open.
once open, i cleaned the rails so it would work more smoothly. works great for summertime.

I'm not really a convertible fan, far less secure (theft, break ins), less safe in a rollover, less ridgid and heavier chassis (I don't think there's ever been a lighter or more ridgid convertable version of a hard top car). It's also A LOT easier to get on track with a coupe, as most places require only OEM safety gear, where nearly everywhere requires that convertibles have roll bars, some require race seats and harnesses, and I know of one that has BANNED convertibles from attending. I do like being able to have the extra air from the sunroof though, I find it makes a noticable difference to the amount of air I get, and that's important when driving around in 110+ degree F days in a black on black car. Also, with the FC, the coupe has A LOT more trunk space, which I've used up completely several times now. I also prefer the look of coupes to convertibles most of the time. So for me a sunroof is a better option than a convertible, so you can't just say that if you want more air than side windows allow then get a convertible, it's not that simple.

My previous FC had no sunroof but the current one has it, and I like it much more. I'm short so headroom isn't much of an issue, and this is a DD, so the small weight penalty is forgotten.
Sunroof is great for driving on a warm summer night. Hell, I open mine just about anytime it's not raining and above 35 degrees. Set the logicon to the bi-level setting with the temperature at halfway, and the increased airflow of the sunroof pulls plenty of heat through the lower vents even with the fan turned off.

Yeah, I have all the same comments, plus a few. When I first got my '7 (summer of '07, haha, just realized the irony...) I had never driven and been in very few cars with a sunroof. I never gave them a second thought because I never 'needed' one, and I tend to use my cars for very practical purposes plus going fast (as fast as I could manage anyway). A sunroof never fit into either of those categories, but when I got my '7 I found that the sunroof is really quite nice. It's totally a comfort and 'experience the ride' sort of thing. But again, I have all the same issues with it that he ^^^ does.
Also, you could try getting a non reclinable bucket seat like a Sparco Evo, and get the mounts that put it down closer to the floor. I'm doing that when I have the $$$ for it, as well as a Nardi wheel.

Asterisk, the thing that concerns me about non-reclining seats is what if I'm not comfortable and or can't reach everything with the position it's fixed at? Basically, how do I know it will fit me right?
