Sunroof/moonroof question.

Hey guys. Dunno if this belongs in here (debated putting it in the lounge), so if it needs to be moved there, moderators, please do so. Thanks. I have an '87 RX7 Base model. It has a Glass sunroof (or I guess a moon roof). I was curious how many other people have this? I haven't seen ANY other 2G with a glass roof. So I was just curious. I actually have both the glass one and the body colored one in a box. So I didn't know if it was an option, and how much it was from the factory. (this car was bought used).

In fact, I'll make it a poll.

I prefer the body colored top because here in STL, things can get pretty hot if you just have a pane of glass above you.

The glass on mine seems to be tinted somewhat. It actually doesn't get that hot under the sun.

Yes to your question, will a glass moon roof fit the stock metal sunroof opening. you will love a 'glass roof. Yes they are tinted and have a film with perferated holes, they also have a plastic ' blind' or shade if you get to hot from over head from the sun. they were a dealer option. today i picked one up at the junkyard for a friend for $ 49.00 dollors US. The whole thing.

Hmmm. Mine has none of the "dotted holes" thing (my old 240sx had that). it's just a plain glass with no screen to slide to block the sun. I wonder if mine is an aftermarket unit?

Does it say "Pacific Glass" on the glass section?

Does it open electrically (tilt, up and back)?

What made you think you had base model?

I have the glass of the Pacific Glass "kit" mounted in my car. I believe the hard part is finding/affording the glass panel.

Yep,, electric, opens, tilts, has a crank in case power dies.
guys,,,all of your metal sunroof hardware is the same. think of it as replacing the metal with 'glass. There are four screws that hold the 'glass to the mounting 'arms' that slide and raise but,,, it's not that easy you see there is no 'felt' around the 'glass to waterproof it as in the metal roof and theres no wind deflector that 'pops' up when the 'glass roof is open. There were 2 of them at the yard, both the exact same. The 'glass says nothing about 'pacific' anywhere. I've installed 'glass moonroofs on both of my 7's, and all i can say is ::I LOVE 'EM.
opens up the insides tons, but then the 1st gens opening is at least twice the size of the 2ed gens openings. Pacific was a really cool company, why they stopped making stuff, i don't know. It's a shame because from wide body kits to 'glass moonroofs they had it going on,,,,hard !! . I was at sevenstock 6 and i didn't see that many 'glass moonroofs on 2ed gens.if any.

Yeah, they wouldn't let BLUE TII into the 7stock parking lot.

Turbo wasn't big enough.

I was able to show off a bit at Racing Beat parking lot- day 2

I've seen a number of glass sunroofs on our FC's.. i spoke with a mazda mechanic and he said that only a certain number of FC"s were made with "glass roofs"

-Markus

Icemark correct me if i'm wrong...

"So i guess if you have one.. feel lucky" I'd acctually prefer no sunroof, less weight on the top centerhalf of the chassis, and less rust to deal with." CHEERS!
