Hey,
I just bought an 87 GXL and this car came with lots of goodies. It came with a Headers back exhaust too a single exit Apexi N1 and a full intake. My problem is that the cat is gutted with a leak and the the temp sensor does not work. Now, I am a college student and I do not have a whole lot of money. I found Summit Racing and am ordering a full sweep 100 to 300 degree temp sensor and a cheep resonator. I was just wondering what the general consensus is on their parts?

Summit sells good stuff and cheap stuff as well. Mostly they try to keep it decent though. I probably wouldnt go with a Sunpro gauge though. Get something with good reviews.

Check out egauges.com. They have a huge selection and a 90 degree sweep gauge will keep your budget under control. You will really only need one that reads between 180F (thermostat opens) and 230~ish (overheating, shut it down ASAP) If you're really on a budget, try hunting down the problem with the stock gauge. The S4 temp gauges have been tested by others to be fairly consistent as long as you know how to interpret them.

 

Well, I know the problem with the stock gauge. The wiring is frayed at the sensor. I just wanted a more precise reading from that gauge because from what I understand its really important. Thank you though, I will look into that site.

 

If the resonator is glass-packed, it will only last a few hours if used in place of the cat. If it's at the back of the car, the life should be a few months to a few years.
