Sub-zero starting system fluid reservoir
I noticed today I had a tank of something in the back of the engine bay, on the passenger side. Not hooked up to anything.. And not seeming to have anything in it. I'd seen it before but not thought about it.. In the Haynes Manual it looks like it has an arrow pointing at that labeling it as the sub-zero blah blah... I was wondering, is that for the AWS? Or something else? Because I swear the AWS still seems to work on the car...
I'd get a pic, but since it's the only white tank thing back there, I'd think people would know what I was refering to.. And the fact that my digi cam's hookup cord is back at college while I'm at home.

Alot of people on here say its completley useless, but I disagree. Even though I have my own removed, I might have kept it if I knew what I knew now.
There is a temp sensor that triggers the system. When its really cold, it will turn on the sub zero startup assist. All it does is it injects coolant into the engine (whatever is in your resevoir) from the upper intake manifold (na s4) or from the lower intake manifold (TII s4). The coolant goes into the engine and helps to give it compression for cold mornings. Better compression=better starting.

Both my S5 NAs came with the system (albeit disconnected) and I removed them both.
My thinking is that if Mazda- the same company that insisted on the thermowax- thought the cold start system didn't work and should be removed, then it probably was really crap.
