stuck thermo pellet

Rebuilding my engine i put in the atkins thermo pellet in backwards and torqued the front bolt to spec. YUP stupid happens. I started to drill the pellet enough to get a screw in there and attempt to pull it out but the head of the screw broke.

ive soaked the sucker in penetrating lube and flows through the shaft even though the pellet is stuck. Any suggestions on how i can get this thing out without causing further damage?

Weld something to the piece of bolt sticking out and use a slide hammer

see if a machine shop can drill it out with a lathe. Once you drill most of it out, it might be able to get picked out.

Sodium Hydroxide (lye) will dissolve aluminium without affecting steel. We use it to clean aluminium off steel parts before grinding. Use all appropriate safety precautions ..... this stuff is properly dangerous.

A shop with an EDM should be able to remove it as well, but it might be tricky in a blind hole.

Is this an assembled motor? I think it changes everything when it comes to a fix.

At very least put it up on your Wall of Shame/Knowledge. I have seen this happen and luckily I haven't done it yet, but the results are no bueno for sure. I agree with L0 and their lye idea, but more importantly the safety precautions when using it.

Do let us know how the rebuild goes!

She Can't Throw that Lamp at ya!.. (circular steel base approximately 11.5" in diameter and 1.25" thick. Made out of a very dense steel it is nearly 70 LBS in weight! )

If she does then YOU wear the dress..hahahhahaha!
