strut reassemble

Well, I just put on my RB springs and now need to tighten down my rear KYB struts. But the shaft just keeps spinning.... I have an impact gun, but I don't want to over tighten it. Any ideas would really help. Thanks.

Book says 59 ft. lbs. of torque?

Just hold the shaft and the top mount and use the impact gun. Done it dozens of times with no problems.

yea

Alright. What do you mean hold the top mount? hold the shaft? The car is on the ground. I was told your supposed to tighten them when the car is on the ground?

just tighten it up with an impact..you can't keep the shaft from spinning to actually torque them to a specific rating.

I always assemble the strut assembly before putting it back in the car. When using the impact the shaft will still spin and the strut hat will also spin. Just use one hand and place your fingers on the shaft and your thumb on the strut hat and use the other for the gun. Easy.

Every car I've ever taken it apart on has a square head on the shaft, and there's a special set of wrenches used to hold the head and another that slides over and turns the nut.

I haven't taken apart my FC yet though, so maybe not.
