stripped speed bleeders

i stripped the threads on a pair of speed bleeders i bought, (7mmx1.0) for the front. I was aware that the threads had a reputation of being fragile, so i finger-tightened them and had a friend pump the brakes while i tightened them with a wrench until the flow of brake fluid was stopped. unfortunately, though, they stripped out before they were tight enough to seal. was the set i purchased defective, or did i mess this up myself?

Which front calipers do you have? I cant remember the exact size of the bleeders that go in the front aluminum 4-pots (7mm sounds too small). But, I know it is VERY VERY easy to strip the threads on the caliper itself if it is the aluminum calipers, both for the bleeder screw and the brake line. I have done it multiple times. It is alot easier to strip the aluminum threads on the caliper than it is to strip the steel threads on the bleeders screw (even speed bleeders)

I have speed bleeders in all 4 of my calipers and have had them on other cars. No problems at all.

The speed bleeders also come with a sealant on the threads. Thus it may apear that you have stripped them if you took the bleeder screw all the way back out. When what you might be seeing is the sealant flaking off. Or the stripped aluminum threads from the calipers.

thanks for the reply. i have the 4-pot front calipers, too. i don't think i stripped the caliper threads, because the stock bleeder valve still seals fine. i was turning the speed bleeder slowly and intending to stop when the flow of brake fluid stopped, but it lost all resistance and began to turn freely before this happened. i'm going to take another look at the thread sealant, though.
