Strange Oil related problem...
My fresh streetport is suffering from the oil control rings failing.. (5 k on rebuild) I guess the rings weren't within spec as the originals were put back in...ummp. Well life goes on right? So i HAD been running 20w50 oil to try and reduce the high rpm smoking i was getting...It seemed to make the problem worse, It made the oil pressure go up and consiquently made the oil blow by the rings worse then before..or so it seems. So i swapped the oil to 10w30 today and the high rpm smoking seems to be at a minimum....wierd. Is my assumption correct that the "thicker" oil was actually causing more pressure in the system therefore forcing more oil into the chamber? Let me know...your opinions are welcome.

I'm thinking that the thicker oil was causing more pressure in your system than usual causing the blow-by.
From what I understand the thinner oil will actually lube the engine better anyway due to the fact it's thinner and will actually spread into spots the thicker stuff wont go.

Nope, doesn't really make sense...the thicker oil doesn't raise pressure by a significant amount and should actually help seal the brittle control rig better than thinner oil. It could also be a problem with your OMP, check it out. When was the last time the oil was changed? Any receipt on that rebuild?
